SUMMARY 

This position will require a candidate with some knowledge of advanced construction procedures and an excellent standard of safety who works well within a team.  Training will be provided on the more specific construction techniques in the petroleum industry.  The successful candidate may also be trained as a petroleum technician during down time and winter months when construction is not as busy. 

The Construction Specialist will specialize in concrete repairs and upgrades at retail petroleum sales sites (gas stations) including tank-pad upgrades, island repairs including manhole grade-ring and spill container replacements.  With experience the Construction Specialist may participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of petroleum equipment. Experience with construction related equipment such as a quick cut saw, jack hammer with air compressor, towing trailers and road safety standards is required.  The Construction Specialist will work with the Project Manager in planning, procurement and execution of site repairs and upgrades.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Minor Construction

Repair or replace tank pad manhole grade rings, spill containers and finish concrete/asphalt. Experience with surveying equipment to take grade elevations for construction Concrete construction including sidewalks, slabs, bollards, and yard lighting and signage foundations. Could include cutting and threading of steel piping (training will be provided). Carpentry including fences and gates. Could also perform building repairs including exterior masonry, minor drywall repairs, floor and ceiling tiles, etc.

Repair and Maintenance

Perform preventive maintenance inspection services on petroleum equipment. Service and repair petroleum equipment. Diagnose and repair issues with pressure, suction, and siphon piping systems.

Client Support

Help maintain strong, trustworthy, and lasting relationships with our existing and new clients that will ensure repeat business and free flowing referrals and focuses on client relationships to grow and maintain core client base.

Documentation

Complete all documentation in a timely and accurate manner.

Other

Ensure that the company health and safety policies and procedures are followed. Possess the physical and mental capabilities to work under stress and control multiple tasks at a time.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Experienced with concrete cutting, jackhammering, forming and finishing. Can make wise judgments when working independently, with no direct supervision. Are very mechanically inclined, with an affinity for solving mechanical problems. Valid drivers license and able to tow small dump trailer and compressor. Are always looking for ways to do things better and more efficiently. Are happy to learn and follow directions when needed. Are organized, timely, and professional. Have at least moderate computer skills. Take pride in customer satisfaction.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

Valid drivers license.

The following would be assets but not required:

Experience with small machinery including skid steers or mini-excavators. Electrical experience (in petroleum or otherwise) or an understanding of electrical concepts and basic programming. TSSA Petroleum Mechanic Certifications (PM1, PM2, PM3, or PMH)
