Construction Manager (Civils – Bulk Water Projects - NEC3 ECC) - Durban

Based in Durban (must live in Durban or have own accommodation)
 
BSc, B-Tech, or Diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
Professional Experience:
Minimum 10 years of experience in civil construction, specializing in water reticulation networks and bulk water pipelines.
At least 5 years of experience working with NEC3 Engineering and Construction Contracts, particularly the option chosen for this project.
Mandatory registration with SACPCMP as a Professional Construction Manager (PrCM).
 
Technical Skills:
Proficient in construction methodologies, especially for water infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of NEC3 ECC processes, including site instructions and compensation events. Ability to develop and manage construction schedules using project management tools. Soft Skills:
Excellent leadership and communication skills. Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills under pressure. Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes. Preferred Additional Skills
Experience in managing large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects in ports or similar environments. Familiarity with advanced construction technologies, such as GIS and 3D modeling for infrastructure. Proficiency in project management software, such as MS Project or Primavera P6. Working knowledge of Lean Construction Management and system application is an added advantage. Performance Indicators
Timely and within-budget delivery of construction milestones. Adherence to safety and environmental standards, with minimal incidents. Positive stakeholder feedback on site management and communication. Completion of high-quality work, verified through QA/QC inspections.  
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
Develop and implement construction schedules aligned with project timelines. Coordinate and supervise all site activities, including site clearance, earthworks, pipeline installation, and auxiliary works. Ensure proper resource allocation, including labor, equipment, and materials. Site Management
Monitor daily on-site activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards. Conduct regular site inspections to identify and resolve potential issues. Oversee the implementation of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) processes. Contract Administration
Apply NEC3 ECC principles to manage site instructions, variations, and compensation events. Maintain accurate site records, including daily logs, progress reports, and material usage. Collaborate with the Contracts Manager to address contractual issues and claims. Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance Enforce compliance with all HSE regulations and the project’s Environmental Management Plan (EMP). Conduct safety inductions and regular toolbox talks with site personnel. Investigate and report safety incidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented. Team Leadership
Lead and mentor site supervisors, foremen, and other construction personnel. Foster a collaborative and productive working environment on-site. Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure alignment with project goals. Stakeholder Coordination
Liaise with the Project Director, consultants, and client representatives to address site-related concerns. Facilitate site meetings to review progress and resolve issues. Represent the construction team in client and stakeholder engagements.
