We are looking for a Construction Project Cost Estimator to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies. This role will report to the

Principal FEED MEP Engineer and will either be based in San Jose, CA or Newark, DE. This is a fully on-site, in office role.


This position will be responsible for advancing Bloom’s construction cost estimation and project leadership for the successful installation of our Bloom Energy servers at our customer sites. This role will include providing cost estimates for new projects that will feed into budgets and contract proposals.

Role and Responsibilities:

Strong understanding of a broad set of engineering and construction solutions and must have the ability to interface with the internal design and external customer process. Defines and sets construction estimates, budgets, methods, timeline, and evaluates financial risksSupport in verifying cost for construction change orders.Compile comprehensive cost estimates for fuel cell construction projects. Estimated costs will be based on a preliminary site plan, one line diagram, Basis of Design document and observations noted during initial site surveys.Review site plan and one line diagrams for fuel cell installation projects for accuracy and opportunity for cost reduction.Coordinate with Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Applications Engineers to value engineer project designs and identify any scope deviations.Support Site Design Manager in compiling RFIs, collaborate with EPC’s to find opportunity in schedule and cost.Possess the knowledge to be at the forefront of the latest construction methods and execution for high quality cost effective site development.Performance tracking to track and summarize estimate performance collaborating with Finance.Write contract-specific scope of works aligned to the technical proposal and associated estimate for inclusion in contract and as a basis from which the execution team will assess for customer change ordersLead ad-hoc cost studies that enable rapid decision-making based on payback, rate of return, etc.

Skills and Experience:

8 – 10 years of relevant work experience is required10 plus years of relevant work experience in a EPC /GC or Construction environment including applicable work experience in construction cost estimating and pre-construction services; preferably in industrial, commercial and/or high-tech industries, large scale solar, wind, battery storage and /or DG with coordination with electrical and gas Utilities for interconnection is preferredMust have extensive knowledge of material and equipment rates.Must understand how expediting or delaying project schedules impact budgetsMust understand US labor market requirements with an emphasis on East Coast and West coast, union and non-union with international market knowledge being a plus.Requires a working knowledge of construction estimation, purchasing, supply sources, contracting methods and strategies, and Company products and components. Analytical ability to prepare supplier performance reports, cost/price analyses, and other performance measuresMust be able to respond appropriately and professionally to a variety of situations, including dealing with conflicting priorities and the handling of confidential information.Human relations skills to communicate with supervisory and other Company personnel and supplier representatives through personal contact and telephone conversation, to select sources of supply, negotiate prices or prepare requests for bids, discuss and transmit requirements and specifications, obtain quotations on price and delivery, finalize purchase forms and contracts, and ascertain supplier ability to fulfill commitmentsAbility to lead cross-functional process improvement teamsAbility to think and act strategically: strong analytical skills and business acumen with seamless ability to be strategic and tactical when neededLead by example and willingness to “live and learn” a prerequisite. Courage and energy welcomedStrong oral and written communication skills.
