We are searching for an experienced Consultancy – Gender Action Learning Systems (GALS) Facilitator/s at our Kenya facility. 

Assignment Overview:

Women in Kenya across sectors are increasingly taking a key role in income generation yet often face significant barriers, such as limited access to resources, unequal distribution of roles, and lack of support within their households. They have little decision-making authority over the income they generate, which reduces their motivation and limits their drive to be more productive. Moreover, their increased duties in managing household and family responsibilities restrict their time and mobility, hindering their ability to participate extensively in income-earning activities.
These challenges reduce their productivity and household earnings. The underlying cause of these issues lies in patriarchal and society norms that perpetuate unequal gender roles and power dynamics. Addressing these gender inequalities is essential for driving transformative change and helping CFYE Implementing Partners reach their women targets as they create job opportunities with at least 50% being for women.
To address these issues, we seek an experienced facilitator to lead a Gender Action Learning System (GALS) approach, aimed at supporting CFYE Implementing Partners (IPs) enhance women’s participation in various projects that are in Digi-health, Agriculture, Agro-Logistics, Waste Recycling sectors with significant barriers to women participation across both peri-urban and rural areas of Kenya
The expert will report to CFYE’s Country Lead in Kenya and work together with other relevant staff including the CFYE Kenya team, CFYE Kenya Gender Expert and the CFYE International Gender Advisor.

Key responsibilities:

The GALS Facilitator/s primary responsibilities will include:

1) In partnership with selected CFYE Kenya Implementing partners, the consultant will design the selection criteria of the targeted trainees, mobilise and select final list of trainees to be trained on the GALS.
2) Informed by IPs needs, the consultant is expected to design the delivery strategy and implementation of GALS modules training.
3) Support CFYE Kenya Implementing partners to collect data on progress and results, providing insights into the effectiveness of the intervention, and for the learning of CFYE Kenya Country team.
4) The facilitator will also work alongside the CFYE Kenya Gender consultant who is supporting the implementing partners with their Gender diagnostics, action planning and delivering coaching sessions.

Scope of Work:

1) Review the literature/Implementing Partners information informing the selection of the GALS training.
2) Assist CFYE Implementing partners in the selection of relevant target trainees/participants
3) Prepare the necessary materials and conduct an orientation for the appointed Implementing Partner staff and field agents (community champions)
4) Deliver the selected GALS modules
5) Assist CFYE Implementing partners (during the training) to identify the engagement and mobilisation process, including by developing/adapting guidelines explaining the purpose, benefits, and process of the workshops and addressing any concerns or barriers to participation, ensuring that targeted project beneficiaries are motivated to engage fully in the process.
6) Support participants in creating data collection tools or adapting existing ones (as needed and relevant) to track beneficiaries' progress and assess the effectiveness of the GALS approach.

Deliverables:

1) Develop a workplan of how the assignment will be carried out
2) Final list of the targeted/relevant staff and field level champions identified and mobilised
3) Workshop materials including the GALS modules are adapted the CFYE IPs project dynamics
4) Conduct an orientation of the GALS methodology with the selected staff of IPs
5) Selected GALS modules delivered to IPS
6) Provide insights towards tools for evaluation and learning
7) Regular progress reporting against the established objectives

Required Qualifications:

- Proven experience in gender equality programming and facilitation, particularly in rural or agricultural settings.
- Extensive experience planning and delivering the GALS methodology and other gender-transformative approaches in Keny including but not limited to corporate social responsibility, gender policies, implementation and advisory, gender economic empowerment, Gender inclusion
- A demonstrated understanding of issues and challenges related to gender in sectors such as Digi-health, Agriculture, Agro-Logistics, Waste Recycling among others.
- Experience working with both men and women to promote gender equity.
- Ability to work independently as well as take an advisory role with multiple stakeholders in a time-pressured environment.  
Strong communication and training skills, including the ability to engage diverse groups and individuals.

Level of Effort and Reporting:

Up to 45 days over a period of 3 months (17th February 2025 – June 30th, 2025). The assignment will start in Mid-February of 2025.

- Strong writing and visual skills to (co-) deliver the agreed upon deliverables.
- Must be willing to offer training in rural areas across Kenya.
