Job Description Summary

The Alternative Direct Distribution team is dedicated to partnering with Personal Lines (PL) intermediaries (licensed PL agencies) who are committed to building out and/or creating both agent and customer experiences via embedded, digital, call center, and franchise operating models.

As Consultant, Relationship Management – Alternative Direct Distribution (ADD), you’ll be the primary face of Nationwide for the firm’s frontline sales leadership, producers, and service personnel. We’ll count on you to develop and implement tactics that align to our internal firm performance strategies. Successful execution of these tactics will drive desired firm quoting behaviors and customer retention results. As the designated internal subject matter expert and owner of a portfolio segment you’ll be responsible for driving Nationwide’s competitive advantage – by curating and designing best practices for the ADD team to deploy with their firms, while providing vision and strategy support of your segment to ADD leadership.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Navigates complex Alternative Distribution firm relationships, serving as the business expert and primary contact in working with sales leaders, producers, and service teams. Develops strategies to drive performance with assigned firms. Manages firm communications, newsletters, marketing initiatives, and product changes. Provides reporting, consultation, and insights to support firm relationships.

Monitors and analyzes book mix, size, retention, profit. Develops insights to leverage in consulting with firms on actions required to support profitable growth.

Works closely with product and technology partners to maintain expertise on partner and/or market solutions. Delivers solutions to firms to create a competitive advantage and achieve assigned objectives.

Represents the Alternative Distribution organization in collaboration with product, service, underwriting, operations, and claims professionals on issue resolution. Leads problem-solving efforts related to agent concerns. Participates as the subject matter expert on initiatives impacting the value chain.

Provides expert consultation to agents around appetite, quote creations, systems, and training needs.

Gathers agent feedback to use in continuous improvement efforts. Collaborates with product partners and other counterparts such as finance, marketing, and operations to problem-solve, educate, promote, review sales practices, and provide insight on agent behavior.

Communicates market insights and observations to ADD leadership on opportunities for profitable growth. Consults with product partners on strategic and tactical planning, measurement and monitoring of objectives, course corrections, and firm behavior management.

Curates and owns Best Practices for one or more assigned portfolio segments. Implements these processes within our ADD firm’s operations.

Participates in pipeline meetings with ADD team partners to discuss upcoming new appointments.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director, Relationship Management – Alternative Direct Distribution. Individual contributor with informal leadership responsibility for the Sales Relationship Specialists.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree in economics, business, risk management & insurance, marketing, or related fields preferred.

Experience: Typically, 5+ years of experience in personal lines insurance. Experience specifically in sales, underwriting, or product is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Confirmed knowledge of personal lines products and processes. Strong knowledge of personal lines digital technology resources & integration patterns. Solid understanding of insurance company operations including technology. Ability to develop meaningful relationships. Customer service driven and action-oriented with a demonstrated drive for results. Strong organizational agility, business acuity, and interpersonal savvy. Effective problem-solving and presentation skills. Ability to coordinate and execute quality & training initiatives. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to motivate a large producer force. Proven ability to plan and set work priorities.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Travel required; candidate must live near a major U.S. airport.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for Consultant, Relationship Management - Alternative Direct Distribution : $86,000.00-$178,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Consultant, Relationship Management - Alternative Direct Distribution : $95,000.00 - $143,000.00
