Consultant - Employee Relations

Title: Consultant – Workplace Justice & Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

Reports to: CHRO

FLSA Status: Exempt

Working with the Chief Human Resources Officer to ensure a just and equitable work culture as we work toward building a brighter, healthier future for all.

With the support of the Principle and Senior Consultant, the Workplace Justice and DEI – Consultant will assist with the administration and provide guidance, support, training and counsel to staff and managers in employee relations cases, policies & procedures, performance management and other employment legal matters. This position is responsible for promoting organizational trust and wellbeing to create an environment in which all Luminaries can experience joy at work. Conducting respectful and thorough inquiries, consultations, training and developing policy and procedures are critical to this role.

A successful candidate will have a background in employee relations and employment law and regulations, performance management, and training and development. Have flexibility of communication style to support a wide range of personalities and have strong communication and relationship building skills. Assist with the development and implementation of a Just Culture program, including policies, procedures, and training, that aligns with industry best practices and supports our organizational values.Ensures that Just Culture principles are used to reduce conscious and unconscious bias in decision making for employment actions.Champions Justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace, ensuring that all teammates bring the best versions of themselves to a joyful workplace.Embodies a commitment to an anti-racist culture and unabashedly promotes that commitment.Assists with the implementation and facilitation of initiatives and programs to boost employee morale, job satisfaction, and overall engagement within the organization.Establishes credibility and partners with leaders to develop, plan, implement, and supervise the employee relations program including training of employees and leadership on policy and procedure.Ensures a fair, consistent, and lawful approach to all employment actions, paying close attention to issues involving micro-aggressions and other behaviors that negatively impact the well-being of diverse members of the workforce.Provides consultative support in partnership with leadership to address employee management issues, unsatisfactory performance with leaders; development of growth plans; succession planning; problem solving; and employment actions up to and including terminations.Supports a culture of justice and accountability through the thoughtful and comprehensive investigation of employee concerns regarding policy interpretation and application, allegations of discrimination/harassment, and disputes regarding employment actions and terminations.Supports efforts to increase operational literacy across the organization to promote effective policy and process management.Works collaboratively with the CHRO, operational leaders, Principal Consultant, and other HR leaders to provide responses to external charges, inquiries, and legal challenges; consulting with HR Leadership and/or legal counsel as appropriate.  Interprets policy and practice for management and employees.Informs all levels of management including executive officers of trends and developments.Maintains/revises Employee Handbook, HR Policies, and all HR processes and procedures, to ensure compliance with state/federal regulatory agencies and Joint Commission.Leads Joint Commission, Department of Labor or other federal/state auditing and investigations. Proactively supports the delivery of HR processes and practices in concert with business unit leadership and manages complex and difficult projects cross-functionally.Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop and implement solutions to address systemic issues that contribute to safety and performance concerns.Monitors and reports on the effectiveness of our Just Culture program, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

BA/BS Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field is required.Two to Four years progressively responsible professional HR experience, in Employee Relations is required.

Required License/Certifications:

PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP or equivalent.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands -

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
