Ascension Technologies is seeking a Consultant Principal Architect to join the Enterprise Architecture team as the Lead for Emerging Trends, Proactive technology exploration aligned to business outcomes, Innovation, AI and Cloud Technologies reporting to the AVP for Enterprise Architecture within Ascension Technologies. The successful candidate will partner with the business and other Ascension Technologies teams, bringing broad healthcare experience, strong architecture and technology knowledge, thought leadership and ability to deliver in a complex healthcare organization possessing a highly complex and diverse technology ecosystem.

 

Job Description:

 

Working collaboratively, the candidate will lead Enterprise Architecture focus on Emerging Trends, Innovation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cloud Technologies looking across multiple business (verticals) and technology service (horizontals). This includes responsibility for identifying, assessing and recommending Innovation and Emerging Trend opportunities, including scope, cost and feasibility considerations. The candidate will maintain a proactive technology radar, look ahead three to five years from now.

 

The candidate will partner with Executive Leadership and Architecture Domain Leaders to enable success. They will also provide Executive Level Consulting and Guidance to Ascension senior leadership leveraging value-added scientifically based and technologically sound business and technology based insights and experience.

 

Working with other architects, the candidate provides consulting support to ensure that potential solutions being designed are platform oriented, decomposable, decoupled and fit into the broader service-oriented architecture landscape and technology ecosystem, meeting defined Enterprise Architecture standards.

 

The candidate also drives efforts to modernize technology platforms and systems, simplify application inventory to standardize technology solutions as well as reduce the overall technology portfolio based on key performance metrics and other business drivers.

 

The candidate works closely with Executive Leadership, Tower Architect Leaders and Lead Portfolio Architects and external sources as required. They provide education and insights on Emerging Technologies, AI and Cloud Technologies to foster broad awareness and leverage within existing and future initiatives and architecture efforts, where appropriate. They employ architecture design best practices including mentoring other architects to advance overall skill sets, knowledge and maturity.

 

Accountabilities: Detail by Level

Leveraging broad external and internal knowledge sources, understands Emerging Trends in Technology and Healthcare. Working in partnership with executive leadership and Architecture Tower Leads, seeks out opportunities, assessing their potential benefits and/or impacts to the existing technology ecosystem. Opportunities include competitive market advantage, modernization of technology platforms, delivering an exceptional customer experience, simplifying the technology landscape, reducing the cost of technology, etc.Identifies specific Proof of Concepts and Pilots, to speed understanding of benefit/risks, and positively influence strategic plans and technology investment decisions where benefits of expanded rollout and leverage of various technologies are revealed. Possessing a deep understanding of AI technologies, serves as the primary AT architectural advisor on AI. This includes understanding and overseeing the existing use of AI within the business and technology spaces, providing technology guardrails and process consistency in how AI use is assessed, reviewed and approved. Ensures robust testing strategies are developed and employed to ensure the appropriate use of AI, aligned with Ascension’s Mission, reducing the potential for the introduction of AI bias. Ensures capture of relevant AI system information in a central repository for broad leverage, periodic review/auditing and knowledge sharing. Leveraging strong knowledge of various cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) including networking fundamentals, data management and security practice expertise, partners with appropriate business and technology leadership in the formation of an enterprise Cloud-first strategy. This includes the development of a prioritized strategic roadmap which accelerates the organization forward in modernizing its technology architecture and landscape. Engages early as part of strategic planning efforts or when a complex business technology need is first identified where Cloud Technology or AI plays a major role. Supports Enterprise Architecture leadership in periodic updates and presentations to Ascension Technologies Executive teams and Ascension leadership forums on a broad array of topics, strategies and focus areas. Leverages detailed Points of View (POV), employing a domain centric collaborative approach, providing architectural perspective and technology pattern recommendations for various Enterprise Architecture initiatives and other significant bodies of work as needed. Compares and contrasts different enterprise level architecture configurations and patterns based on business value, operational resilience and cost considerations.Supports the creation of strategic roadmaps that sequence technology initiatives based on business priorities and technical dependencies, aligning to the overall enterprise strategy. Provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) for Architecture Review Board (ARB) Governance and Standards including serving as an AT representative on organization AI governance bodies and forums. Supports ad hoc Special Projects as assigned. Possesses strong architecture modeling skills, experienced in leveraging Enterprise Architecture (EA) data models. Demonstrated ability to develop various diagrams and visuals leveraging data sets within the EA data model. Applies critical thinking for the development of nuanced architecture views to meet specific needs given complexities of the existing technology ecosystem, providing actionable insights. Applies strong expertise in multiple areas of architecture, including:
Business ArchitectureInformation & Data ArchitectureApplication ArchitectureTechnology ArchitectureSecurity ArchitectureResponsible for architecting solutions crossing multiple domains or business areas.Works closely with partners inside and outside IT and across business communities in understanding and assessing technology requirements, identifying potential technology solutions, always assessing existing technology investments as a first step. Participates in cross-functional teams for developing and implementing new architectural patterns and standards. Works in conjunction with Enterprise Applications & Platforms, Data Delivery & Governance, Security, Legal, Compliance, Infrastructure, Product Engineering and other areas as necessary.

Fundamental Skills & Abilities

 

Able to lead C-level conversations with client stakeholders to ensure alignment of technology solutions that align with customer needs, while also leveraging existing enterprise capabilities and adherence to Key Enterprise Architecture Principles (KAPs).Establish and ensure system architecture and best practices of solutions with a strong focus on cloud platforms, AI/Gen AI, commercial systems and digital initiatives. This includes acting as the thought leader in driving and understanding customers’ end to end solutions on an enterprise scale and defining technology and processes that enable digital transformation. Strong understanding of technology platforms and modern technologies/approaches to drive technology that is innovative, competitive, secure and resilient. Exceptional communicator and presenter with excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to lead and influence cross functional teams to deliver and meet organizational needs in compressed timeframes. Ability to quickly evaluate options, unlock enterprise challenges, make technology recommendations, and recommend solutions within a diverse technology environment with multiple stakeholders inside customers’ environments. Requirements

Education:

High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree required.Master's degree preferred.

Work Experience:

5 years of experience required.10 years of experience preferred.
Additional Preferences Experience at a large technology products and services organization. Five or more years experience in an information technology discipline with increasing responsibility. Healthcare IT experience is highly preferred, ideally encompassing a broad range of business areas, care delivery settings, including related processes, integration and solution exposure. Product Model and Agile experience preferred (at scale)Familiarity with The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) and architecture modeling tools (e.g. Abacus, IBIS, Orbus iServer, MEGA, LeanIX, etc.)
