Responsible for reviewing, assessing, and analyzing all aspects of consumer loan requests. In addition, the Consumer Underwriter is responsible for evaluating the risks of offering loans in order to approve or decline credit while maximizing profit and minimizing risks and losses. Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
· Review credit applications, credit bureau information, collateral valuation, tax returns, financial statements, and/or other supporting documentation to recommend/approve requests within assigned decisioning authority levels by way of automated scoring system or traditional underwriting.
· Ensure credit files are current, complete, and compliant with company standards.
· Maintain knowledge of all Lending policies and procedures.
· Process applications placing emphasis on response time, quantity of applications processed and quality of applications approved.
· Contact partners to gather information to make appropriate decisions and ability to explain rationale behind credit decisions.
· Assist Lending team in performing other assigned duties and responsibilities as needed to ensure organizational success.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
· Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including ability to write clear, concise correspondence.
· Ability to respond to common inquiries from internal and external customers.
· Ability to organize tasks and complete actions within established deadlines, handling multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.
· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
· Must be able to manage high volumes of documents and keep them organized.
· Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in financial computer applications, database management tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
· General knowledge of loan accounting and general ledger practices.
· Current knowledge of banking regulations.
Industry and Work Experience:
· Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with consumer loan products, loan structures and/or loan documentation.
· Experience with all types of consumer loan documentation, along with knowledge and experience in perfection of liens in real estate and non-real estate secured transactions.
· Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with core bank systems and document software applications.
· Experience in Consumer Underwriting strongly preferred.
Academic:
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
