Contact Engineer

Reporting to the manager, process engineering, you will provide continuous onsite technical support and input to operations, sustaining projects, major projects, and technology development.

Minimum Requirements:

Five or more years of experience in an operating plant

Bachelor degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering

Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)

Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Familiar with P&ID's, process flow diagrams, heat and material balances and other process safety information

Knowledge of fluid hydraulic calculations

Knowledge of HYSYS and computer-based hydraulic packages

Contact Eng will collaborate with cross functional team members to achieve the best results and deliver the most value

Contact Eng will hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same

Responsibilities:

Support Process Unit Team to optimize, troubleshoot, and assess performance against design and safe operating limits

Monitor Key performance indicators (KPI) and provide technical support to ensure operational targets are met

Develop tools to improve both process and equipment monitoring and performance projections

Perform calculations to identify required process conditions, production loss, emission spills and required chemical treatment requirements

Use structured problem-solving techniques and root cause analysis to investigate  and troubleshoot plant operating issues to identify root causes and recommend and implement technical solutions 

Identify improvement opportunities and create problem definitions for further development of projects to improve safety, quality, and production at lower risk and cost

Complete technical studies, risk assessments, problem definitions, and calculations for plant optimization and debottleneck activities and ensure timely and quality completion of corrective actions

Lead Operational technical changes and ensure changes are communicated to Operations and perform effective change follow ups

Provide technical support for tasks such as: regulatory reporting, operational procedure reviews, management of change (MOC) execution, risk reviews, debottleneck identification and plant turnarounds

Responsible for development and maintenance of unit Process Safety Information (PSI) and Contact Eng tools such as: piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID's), process flow diagrams (PFD's), unit specifications and targets, safe operating limits (SOL), and heat and material balance (H&MB)

Location & Other Key Details:

You will work out of our Edmonton refinery in Sherwood Park, located at 801 Petroleum Way

Our engineering roles will follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work

Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours during Turnarounds / Outages / Break ins
