Working in a home-based position, the social studies content developer is responsible for maintaining existing and developing new curriculum for grades K–12. Reporting to the Manager of Curriculum Development, the social studies content developer writes, reviews, and revises curriculum and assessments to improve accuracy, alignment, and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Writes, reviews, and revises curriculum, instructional materials, multimedia, supplementary resources, and assessments Create, update and maintain course documentation including course maps, learning objective frameworks, course metadata, and alignments Demonstrate knowledge of state and national standards and National Standards for Quality Online Learning Design and develop unit and lesson prototypes and proofs of concept Proposes and effectively and responsibly implements new ways of developing content, including the use of generative AI Lead subject matter experts and/or strategic partners to develop course enhancements in alignment to standards, including state-specific academic standards, WCAG 2.2AA accessibility standards, PVS authoring and style guides, and Pearson’s Global Content Policy Has a measurable long-term impact on course performance and how it influences learner outcomes Demonstrate depth and/ or breadth of expertise in own specialized field and provides expertise to various stakeholders Communicate effectively with content development team, product development cross-functional agile team members, and members of product management Consult with and support teachers in the creation and implementation of curriculum Works with a cross-functional Agile team to complete projects and features Proposes and implements new ways of working or procedures within own area Stay current on most recent online education and curriculum development subject area strategies, trends, and initiatives Other duties as assignedQualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; degree in education, curriculum, or similar area preferred Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience or curriculum development required, with virtual learning preferred Deep understanding of K-12 social studies standards and how to develop aligned curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments Exceptional writing skills Experience working with a range of content areas and levels, from elementary to secondary education Proven track record of meeting deadlines while producing highly accurate, accountable work; very detail-oriented Knowledge of education management systems, learning management systems, and/or content management systems Technologically proficient with Microsoft® Office, HTML, and ability to learn other software programs and technology platforms quickly Must enjoy a challenging work environment that requires flexibility, self-direction, creativity, strong communication, and organizational skills Must be able to successfully work independently and also as part of a team Excellent verbal and written communication skillsCompensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New York State, New York City, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time salary range is between $60,000 - $65,000.
