KEY responsibilities
P&L accountability and overall strategy of assigned segment
Create and maintain P&L and overall strategy and performance of the assigned segment in medical education/ practice; nursing. The role provides a strong opportunity to perform as a Portfolio lead for the local publishing program in the assigned segment.Build and drive growth in the local health publishing portfolio through expansion of education/ practice portfolio (developing local, reusable and exportable content in both print and electronic, with ancillaries) in assigned segment.Market understanding including internal products’ knowledge, competitor offerings; monitoring latest trends and offerings in the segment; market visit(s) once a quarter to ascertain portfolio performance across regions.Conduct market research and portfolio analysis to identify evolving needs of customers and business opportunities, and accordingly assess which segment/ subject area to develop.Achieve yearly commissioning and front list targets, ensuring commercial viability of proposed projects through robust research and ascertaining market acceptability.Drive Indian Originals Revenue by supporting Sales: Timely release of titles
Release frontlist titles as outlined in the sales plan.Ensure average GM is achieved on the front list.Support sales to deliver their numbers through shortlisting the focus list of titles.Collaborate with product, marketing, sales and operations functions to ensure success of the portfolio.Deliver Expert Solutions: Drive Adaptation Programme
Drive adaptation program for next 3-5 years to bridge the content gap and reduce the leakage back to US for reprint titles.Liaison with the US counterparts in understanding the reprint pub dates, revision plan, procuring the necessary files for local adaptation.Collaborate with the internal team to ensure proper managing, and publishing of the titles at hand.Work closely with product and sales leads in determining the Price, forecasting, etc to drive a profitable product line.Establish effective relationships & management with international & national KOLs for various formats of medical content and theme-based projects.Ensure offerings adhere to process frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately for each product.Achieve Sales effectiveness through Product Training
Own the Adoption program and ensure the portfolio attention is extended to:Reprints for UG and PG textbooks/ reference booksImports products for librarySelect Indian Original titlesTo engage with KOLs (faculty/student champions) to drive adoption.Manage training program of Sales team on products and softer sales skills as per requirement of team, supervise and guide the Training expert to deliver trainings as per business requirements.Provide Marketing with Product support for the focus titles to create awareness, engagement and thereby driving adoption.To work closely with marketing to synchronize promotional and adoption activities.Enhance Local Solutions with new Product offerings
Develop new product strategy; conceptualize, develop product vision and lead development for local offerings (print & digital) based on identifying gaps and local needs, in alignment with the Company’s overall strategyBuild Publishing pipeline for the VSP period.Acquisition of identified targets
Lead the acquisition of content for Health in both print and digital formats and manage the program by interfacing with both internal and external stake holders.Interface with potential targets help in technical due diligence process.Establish relationship and rapport with potential targets and bringing them to the table for discussion regarding acquisition or partnership.Job Qualifications
Education: Postgraduate, preferably in medicine, nursing, healthcare related or allied health sciences field, with excellent communication skills
10+ years of experience preferably in STM industry, including editorial acquisitions/strategy (preferred) or development, sales, or marketing in higher education publishing or related fieldUnderstanding of medical and scientific content and solutionsProject and team management experience is mustKnowledge of trends, developments, and professionals/thought leaders/authors in assigned specialties ideal but not requiredExperienced in the processes related to ideating, developing, and producing textbooks, ancillaries, and content assetsSkilled in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutlookStrong oral and written communication skillsHigh degree of professionalismFamiliarity with forecasting processes and P&L oversightAttention to detail; ability to meet deadlinesNegotiating and problem-solving skillsAbility to liaise with all customers, cross functional teamsStrong Analytical skills – analyze industry trends and impact, product performanceStrong project management skills, organizational skills, initiative, and the ability to prioritize, set and meet deadlinesAbility to Manage Change and AmbiguityA strong sense of urgency and flexibilityContent editing skillsother requirements
