Content Producer (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth)

WAVY-TV and WAVY.com are continuing to expand our commitment to digital first local journalism. We are looking for someone to join our award-winning team as a Content Producer, responsible for the discovery, assigning and posting of news stories.

Applicants must be innovative, reader-focused and full of creativity. This position requires exceptional writing skills, proofreading/copy editing skills and stellar news judgment, with the ability to react quickly to breaking news. The ideal candidate will also be able to multi-task and work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment. This is a great job for a go-getter.

We are seeking someone with strong social media skills who will be responsible for monitoring and posting relevant content utilizing a variety of social media networks and tools.

Requirements:

Degree in journalism; daily newspaper or news site experience required; live, working web samples and/or print pages preferredProficiency in Associated Press styleStrong written and verbal communication skillsUnderstanding of design for content management systems, usability and accessibility practice and customer focus are essential.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Post stories to WAVY.com and WAVY social media sitesMonitor police and emergency scanners and electronic/printed sources for news and disseminate the information to appropriate newsroom personnelCoordinate and dispatch reporters and photographers to execute news coverageConduct beat calls and contact public information officers to gather informationMust be willing and able to work all shifts, including nights and weekendsAnswer calls from viewers and develop possible story ideasCandidate must be willing and able to work all shifts, including nights and weekends, and holidays.
