**Contract Colony Management Technician** Laboratory Columbus, OH, US Pay Rate Low: 24 | Pay Rate High: 25 + Added - 10/12/2024 Apply for Job **Job Description Summary:** The Colony Management Specialist will maintain multiple traditional and transgenic rodent colonies in support of GLP non-clinical research. + Pay: $23-25/hr + 1st shift M-F ​​​​ **Job Description:** The Colony Management Technician will work closely with functional area management to maintain multiple transgenic mouse colonies including multiple breeding schemes, timed breeding, collection of samples for genotyping, and weaning. They will routinely handle live rodents to perform all colony management duties. The Colony Management Technician will be responsible for understanding basic rodent care as well as breeding strategies, basic rodent genetics, and rodent identification. They will also be responsible for maintaining all colonies within a GLP facility and must have strong written and verbal communication. **Primary Responsibilities Include:** • Perform husbandry tasks for animals including cage change, breeding and weaning tasks, and health monitoring under IACUC standards. • Must have a strong understanding of and adhere to standard operation procedures and guidelines regarding personnel and animal safety. • Assist with breeding schemes for multiple traditional and transgenic rodent colonies to provide for study needs, under the guidance of functional area management. • Adhere to, with a strong understanding, standard operating procedures/guidelines regarding personnel and animal safety. • Data collection, entry, and management. • Communicate thoroughly and regularly with staff members. **Desired Education and Skills:** **•** High School diploma required, and 0-3 years job related experience. • ALAT preferred, or ability to achieve ALAT status within 2 years. • Laboratory animal experience preferred. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications; Word, Excel, Outlook systems. • Ability to strictly adhere to laboratory methods and SOPs. • Passionate about animal welfare. • Strong written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow verbal instructions. • Ability to multi-task and prioritize shifting demands and workload.
