Contract Strategy Implementation Manager
The Position

The Opportunity

The Contract Strategy Implementation Manager reports to the Priority Customer Segment Leader and has responsibility over 1-3 mega accounts or provider programs. This role is a part of a team that has subject matter expertise for contracting solutions for their aligned priority customer segment and accounts/programs, and independently spearheads contract strategy and implementation from an account/program perspective. As an individual contributor with specialized account expertise, this role is responsible for driving end-to-end optimization for strategy & account development and ensures the account is adept at delivering timely, high-quality contract solutions, making meaningful progress with internal teams and external customers.The primary objective is strategic execution, aligning optimized solutions with overarching business needs and ensuring sustainable operationalization of solutions.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Internal Strategy and Planning

Plays a critical role in strategy development to ensure brand and account goals are achievable, sustainable, and aligned with the Customer Segment and overall organizational goals

Supports implementation of access programs, utilizing understanding of access and accounts and in partnership with internal stakeholders, shape long-term goals of and strategic direction for Genentech across critical channels

Prepares for market changes requiring new contracting approaches and programs due to customer vertical integration, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and government policy and legislative reform.

Elevates oversight by integrating industry and customer insights into strategic planning, aligning these insights to the account or brand planning and sharing account point of view while addressing needs of Customer Engagement leads, customers and Squad needs for enhanced program effectiveness

Proactively identifies key themes and trends for contract implementation opportunities and applies business knowledge, customer capabilities, and emerging trends to anticipate market behaviors, easily adapts to evolving market dynamics and customer needs, and identifies crossportfolio implications

Proactively evaluate future business priorities and lead/influence the team through changing market conditions in sync with Genentech goals;identifies cross-functional and cross-portfolio issues and opportunities to inform access strategies

Operational Excellence

Supports execution of the strategy set by the Priority Segment Lead and operationalizes it for the aligned priority segment in the U.S. market. 

Responsible for complex, novel and innovative end-to-end contract strategy implementation responsibilities, managing and meeting deliverables of business operations and supporting high-impact initiatives, including ensuring appropriate alignment with CCM and APS and developing unique solutions to complex situations

Drives and/or supports continuous improvement in contracting opportunities, focusing on revenue impact, customer experience, and operational efficiency while providing insights back into the strategy department to shape future strategy iterations.

Oversees the set-up and payment of complex, novel and innovative of managed care rebates/fees, including the analysis and validation of all rebate and/or bonafide service fee paid to customers; accountable for reviewing and approving work products of peers, including ICFR sign-off, researches and validates detailed information about customers in support of program or pricing eligibility

Leads and/or supports customer interactions for contract negotiation, interpretation, operationalization and disputes for all contract provisions related to the implementation of contract or program for aligned accounts/programs

Understands and interprets contract language and regulations as it relates to contract setup and maintenance to ensure accurate calculation of customer reimbursements

Develops and presents detailed recommendations to leadership for process deviations or contract exceptions that are outside defined guardrails

Reduces financial, compliance and legal risk by evaluating strategy recommendations and operational processes in close collaboration with senior leaders in finance, legal, government programs, customer engagement, and policy.

Customer Engagement and Cross-Functional Collaboration

Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with internal/external contacts at the Manager, Senior Manager, Principal, Director, and Senior Director level to ensure effective communication and a high-level of customer service support for successful implementation and execution of contract terms and payments

Represents Contract Strategy Implementation in account and brand program core teams; contributes to contract management and strategy approaches through knowledge of access, reimbursement arrangements and potential business operations capabilities; partners with CE National Account Executives/HEDs/HDs to help develop account strategies, including structuring deals and supporting negotiations

Works to uncover challenges/pain points, negotiate terms of individual contracts, provide counsel on priority segment account policy and strategy, and proactively identifies and addresses potential risks to revenue streams

Educates and influences Customer Engagement, Squad & Public Affairs & Access leaders on priority segment/cross-portfolio access strategies and share best practices from negotiations and implementation for the account(s)

Actively participates to disseminate information and ensures market insights and best-practices are disseminated within the Access organization and enable contract pull-through

Develops relationships with customers and demonstrates deep customer segment and account/program expertise to understand and engage with external customers and internal stakeholders, clearly and accurately communicating contract and program details, internal processes for entity identification, and data validation and financial calculations; mitigates business and financial risks and delivery on meaningful/impactful key performance indicators

Translates customer segment portfolio-wide contracting implications and negotiation strategies into insights that have implications on both account-level engagements and/or brand/portfolio wide access strategies; leads, shapes, and influences contracting strategies for accounts/programs/brand and complex, enterprise-wide and high-impact initiatives across Genentech and through the Priority Customer Segment leads.

Represents the department on product launch teams, new brand contracting initiatives, and other complex projects, communicates key timelines and milestones to internal stakeholders, coordinates internal activities in preparation for launch, and executes the launch implementation plan

Represents CCM processes beyond those owned in CSI and able to demonstrate collective leadership to ensure the broader CCM considerations are represented when other CCM colleagues are not in the room.

Critical Skills/ Knowledge & Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of market access contracting processes and strategies to ensure contract compliance 

Access, managed care, contracting, and negotiation knowledge

Contracting solution development and deployment

Understanding of legislative/regulatory landscape pertaining to healthcare & privacy compliance for aligned segment

Strategic agility, strong influencing, & negotiation skills, 

Knowledge and familiarity with aligned customer segment dynamics & capabilities

Required Qualifications

You have a Bachelor’s Degree

You have at least 2 years (with Bachelors) cross-functional experience in market access, account management, contract negotiations, strategic operations and/or other related fields within the pharmaceutical/ biotechnology or related industry; 

Understanding Market Access contracting processes and strategies to ensure contract compliance

Understanding of leg/reg pertaining to healthcare & privacy compliance for biopharma industry

Access, managed care, contracting, and negotiation expertise 

Ability to provide in-depth, cumulative legal, regulatory, market, industry and other relevant macro analyses and insights that have portfolio-wide implications to current or future strategies

Contracting solution development and deployment

Knowledge and familiarity with aligned customer segment dynamics & capabilities

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree Concentration in General Business, Managed health care, or legal disciplines

MBA or other related Graduate-level degree (e.g., JD or PhD)

4-6 years of equivalent work experience (with an advanced degree) cross-functional experience in market access, account management, contract negotiations, strategic operations and/or other related fields within the pharmaceutical/ biotechnology or related industry

Knowledge of systems and reporting tools that support contract strategy implementation and contract operations/administration

Project management experience and familiarity with project management techniques 

Experience with designing, creating digital customer-facing tools and accelerating AI and other digital innovation

This position is South San Francisco based (at our Genentech Campus).

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $96,700/yr to $179,700/yr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
