Who We Are:

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is the state agency responsible for ensuring clean air, land, and water, the safe management of toxics and hazards, the recycling of solid and hazardous wastes and the preservation of the state's wetlands and coastal resources.

Who We Serve:

Massachusetts was the first state in the nation to combine energy and environmental agencies under one Cabinet secretary. The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) serves Commonwealth residents interested in outdoor recreational activities, clean energy solutions and those who work with animals and livestock. Equally, EOEEA works with energy consumers, power companies, clean energy providers and farmers to delicately balance the interaction with environmental protection laws and regulations while being a cornerstone for our economic prosperity.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, seeks applicants for the position of Contracted Student Intern – Outreach and Planning Intern to perform the following duties:

Office of Outreach and Planning

The Office of Outreach and Planning is responsible for organizing and scheduling events (career fairs, Envirothon, high school visits and more) to promote MassDEP. Connecting and engaging with educators and school officials are crucial components of the Office’s environmental programs, strategies, and events designed to raise awareness about MassDEP. The Office of Outreach and Planning also manages the Michelle Waters- Ekanem Internship Program, which hosts interns twice a year. As part of our talented and professional team, MassDEP interns are provided with education, training, hands-on experience, supervision, and networking opportunities. They participate in a professional environment and use modern technology and information systems to help address real environmental issues.


The Outreach and Planning intern should be familiar in creating engaging and captivating content, from pictures to video to caption. As an intern the duties will include tracking analytics for LinkedIn and other social media platforms, creating social media postings and schedules, and writing captions for posts and brochures. Assist with the design and execution, create and distribute blogs, infographics, and videos. Maintain and monitor all social media emails and inboxes.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent writing skills and creative mindset.Basic knowledge of graphic design, video editing and online marketing.Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop. Great opportunity for students pursuing marketing and communication degrees.
