The Rare Disease Liaison (RDL) will raise awareness within the medical community of X-linked Hypophosphatemia (XLH), Long-Chain Fatty Acid Disorders (LCFAOD), Mucopolysaccharidosis VII (MPS VII), homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) and of identification of pediatric and adult patients.
This position requires consultative and relational interactions to educate the medical community by in-person visits, phone, video, Zoom, and email to healthcare professionals (HCPs). Each RDL will be assigned a geography and will work closely with a medical field team member, i.e. Medical Science Manager (MSMs), to coordinate respective efforts, as needed.
The successful candidate will possess excellent scientific communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a key cross-functional role with internal and external stakeholders.
Work Model:Field: Officially documented as working as a member of the Ultragenyx field team, generally interacting with third parties on behalf of Ultragenyx.
Responsibilities: Make daily calls and in-person visits/video (Zoom) interactions within the assigned geographic accounts. Raise awareness within physicians, nurses, and office staff within the assigned territory of XLH, LCFAOD, MPS VII and HoFH disease state information and of pediatric and adult patient identification. Reactively educate physicians on foreign (if related product is not approved in Turkey) or Turkey-approved product label and transition these physicians to the MSMs team in case more in -depth discussion is required. Demonstrate superior disease-state knowledge and effectively engage healthcare professionals about the rare diseases within the scope of the role and patients identification. Accurately communicate technical, scientific, and disease management information to HCPs. Proactively build productive working relationships with internal/external stakeholders; drive decisions from multiple stakeholders; understand different positions and flex communication style accordingly. Achieve monthly key performance indicators, which includes suspected patients’ find, field activities and CRM documentation. A member of the field team of clinically focused professionals who will function within the Medical Affairs organization and will closely works with the MSM in Turkey. Lead and create a dynamic for innovation and successful implementation of the medical activities in alignment with the strategy. Identify Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and establish and maintain scientific relationships with KOLs; connecting to KOLs in academic and community centers. Develop qualitative relations with patient and physician associations and structure strong collaboration to increase disease awareness. Pair the research and educational needs of external constituents with the appropriate Ultragenyx team member and resources. Serve on cross-functional teams within Ultragenyx as a conduit for accurate and updated medical/market communication, medical/market intelligence, emerging clinical trends, and HCP feedback. Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with regional and national plans, Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings. Provide Scientific and Medical information updates, Provide scientific support at medical congresses, Provide timely feedback/information on emerging clinical/scientific teams and opportunities to internal stakeholders, Provide scientific support for appropriate educational initiatives. Ensure all activities are compliant with company policies and SOPs (standard operating procedures). Requirements: Minimum - Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of science and business skills experience. Have excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to build strong relationships. Strategic analytical acumen and territory management skills. Clinical knowledge/expertise and ability to communicate and present clinical data effectively. Work cross-functionally & collaboratively with internal stakeholders including (but not limited to) MSMs, other medical functions, clinical operations, and patient services. Ability to collaborate with MSMs to achieve the patients’ find targets based on disease prevalence/scientific publications/other meaningful sources from the assigned geography. Strong computer skills utilizing telephone and / or video technology. Excellent organization and time management skills required.
