Job Summary
The Contracts Lead, reporting to the Manager, Project Services, will be responsible for managing the full contracting lifecycle (planning, execution, administration and closing) for the Galore Creek Mining Corporation (GCMC) project. The Contracts Lead will work in a collaborative manner within a growing contracts and procurement team, supporting the diverse commercial requirements of the GCMC management team, broader project and operations team members, and external parties to develop and recommend contract strategies, Request for Proposal (RFP) documentation, and administer the evaluation of proposals, achieving internal alignment on and preparation of recommendations for award documentation, and creating conforming contracts.
The Contracts Lead will contribute as an integral member of the GCMC Business Services Team, providing comprehensive contracting services which support the overall advancement of the Galore Creek project. The successful candidate will be responsible for continuing to build strong working relationships with local communities, including Tahltan Nation and other First Nations groups, and identifying contracting opportunities to continue strengthening relationships and the asset.

Responsibilities
Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values of health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners (Teck and Newmont)
As a member of a multi-disciplinary project team, collaborate and influence Project activities to provide the best commercial value for the Project
Lead preparation of the Contracting Strategy, policies and procedures documents
Enable Project success by identifying and evaluating contracting strategies, and facilitating the selection of the commercial strategy that best supports the Project objectives
Work with internal groups, particularly Legal, Risk and Insurance, and the Manager, Project Services to develop, integrate and deliver best-practice Project contracting practices, procedures, and templates.
Lead the Request for Proposal (RFP) process, including:
Plan, prepare, and manage the RFP documents and process
Analyze and evaluate commercial proposals
Lead the technical evaluation process and consolidating inputs
Support and provide input to the selection process, based on overall best value;
Negotiate commercial and legal terms on behalf of GCMC
Ensure all records are managed and retained
Coordinate agreements post-award in close collaboration with Project Management, Project Controls, and contract scope owners, including evaluating pre-mobilization deliverables, reconciling invoices, negotiating / resolving disputes, negotiating changes, implementing change management procedures, and closing contracts
Ensure all Contractor and Consultant personnel align with all relevant requirements, policies, industry best practices, and project-specific requirements
Build and maintain relationships with relevant GCMC stakeholders and external service providers
Promote GCMC’s commitment to sustainability, the environment, and health and safety, through leading by example, and demonstrating honesty, sincerity, and openness to feedback
Review existing contracting processes and lead improvements aimed at enhancing efficiencies, as necessary, working collaboratively with GCMC team members and external service providers, driving continuous improvements
Foster a culture of open communication, focus on building relationships across the organization, with the partners and external audiences, and invest in developing talent within the organization by providing recognition, challenge, and mentorship

Qualifications
Post-secondary education from a recognized institution is required
Minimum 10 years of proven experience in either an Owner’s team type environment, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company, or an engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) company, leading and executing full contract lifecycle activities
Large mining, oil & gas, or infrastructure project (+$500M) experience is preferred.
Experience managing contracts for remote mineral exploration and related activities would also be an asset
Deep understanding of project lifecycles, procedures, and roles and responsibilities
Experience with various contract types, models, and strategies
Strong understanding on legal, risk, and commercial terms and ability to rely on those terms
Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills
Experience in multiple phases of large project execution
Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous partners and local communities
Able to identify and raise awareness of contract activities that have an impact on the project
Knowledge of and experience working in the industrial engineering and construction industry
Strong critical and conceptual thinking skills
Strong interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal communication skills
High degree of motivation and self-starting capabilities. Ability to prioritize, work under pressure with minimal guidance to meet tight deadlines
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint platforms
Salary Range: 105,000 - 147,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
