Job Description

Develop the Control Room strategy, defining applicable minimum compliance standards that drive the operations of the Control Room and the roles of key stakeholders, within the organisation and across the wider Group landscape.
Oversee the organisation's adherence to regulatory obligations, manage conflicts of interest, and ensure robust monitoring and surveillance of trading activities. Maintain the integrity of the trading environment by enforcing strict compliance with information barrier policies and preventing market abuse.
Coordinate sensitive communications between restricted and unrestricted areas while safeguarding confidential information. Provide proactive oversight and advisory support to trading desks, senior management, and compliance teams, thereby upholding ethical practices and regulatory compliance in a high-stakes environmentConduct communications surveillance and trade surveillance across the organisation and the broader FirstRand Group (FRG) to support compliance with regulatory requirements, detect and monitor market abuse, and maintain market integrity.Engage in extensive stakeholder management, often requiring influence at Exco and senior management level, within the organisation and across FirstRand Group.Engage extensively with critical external stakeholders i.e., those in the regulatory environment, maintaining open lines of communication as a trusted thought-leader, subject matter expert, and advisor.Develop and enforce Control Room policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.Manage the organisation's watch and restricted lists, ensuring accuracy and timely updates to maintain market integrity.Monitor information barriers (Chinese Walls) to prevent unauthorised sharing of material, non-public information (MNPI) and safeguard client confidentiality.Review and approve wall-crossing requests, ensuring compliance with policies and proper documentation of shared MNPI.Oversee surveillance systems to detect and flag potential compliance breaches or suspicious trading activities.Conduct investigations into possible policy breaches or market abuse, producing reports for senior management and regulators as needed.Provide advisory support to trading desks and business units on handling MNPI and resolving compliance-related issues.Identify and manage conflicts of interest through deal reviews, ensuring proper mitigation and alignment with compliance policies.Design and deliver training programmes to enhance awareness of regulatory obligations and Control Room processes among employees.Maintain effective relationships with regulators, addressing queries and ensuring adherence to trading compliance standards.Monitor regulatory developments and update Control Room practices to remain compliant with evolving requirements.Prepare and present regular compliance reports to senior management, highlighting risks, trends, and key findings.Foster collaboration across trading, compliance, and legal teams to address complex compliance challenges effectively.Drive a culture of ethical behaviour and innovation, leveraging technology to enhance monitoring and reporting capabilities.Promote a high-performance, team-focused environment, encouraging continuous learning and professional growth within the Control Room team.Job Details
