POSITION SUMMMARY:
The Control System Specialist reports to the Process Controls Supervisor and supports DCS and PLC projects and systems reliability.
NOTE FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS – This position is posted as Salary Grade N8-N9, but there is salary grade flexibility to fill the actual opening depending on an applicant’s level of experience. Interested applicants who may fall outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for proprietary hardware and software provided by DCS and PLC vendors, not for off-the-shelf PCs, networking equipment, and server software.
Support DCS and PLC reliability through monitoring of system resources, obsolescence management, spare parts management, troubleshooting and resolving performance difficulty, evaluating vendor notifications, executing actions required by vendor notifications, and executing software migration.
Provide day-to-day PLC support to area operating teams.
Support small to large projects associated with DCS and PLC equipment. Activities include produce, review, and/or approve system design and control design requirements; participate in factory acceptance test and site acceptance test; and project development.
Build and maintain custom engineering tools and custom reports utilized by Operations and other departments for various needs including tracking KPIs.
Develop custom control solutions and produce documentation for complex control loops and custom applications. Execute independent testing of control modifications.
Provide support to area operating teams when responsible process control team members are unavailable. Roles include troubleshooting control performance and DCS difficulty.
This position requires on-call support and large projects require some travel for project meetings, review and approval of project documentation, and testing of DCS and PLC systems.
When required, act as a lead or a participant in incident investigations.
Participate in the MOC process.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate of Science degree (or higher) in Industrial Instrumentation, Electrical Technology or related field required.
Five years of process control technology experience in the refining/petrochemical industry or manufacturing setting preferred.
DCS proficiency with Honeywell Experion PKS or TDC 3000 preferred.
PLC proficiency with Triconex or Allen-Bradley preferred.
Ability to productively execute quality work with minimal supervision.
Strong written/oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
