Control Systems Specialist

Employee focused.** **JOB SUMMARY** The Control Systems Specialist provide control system development and support of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems. Commissions new facilities and troubleshoots and supports existing systems. This job is safety-sensitive and subject to DOT and Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations. On call 24/7 365 days with rotating shifts. Up to 50% travel may be required. **Job Profile Summary** Provide control system development and support of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems. Commissions new facilities and troubleshoots and supports existing systems. Identifies technical problems pertaining to equipment or system design failures and abnormalities, and recommends and implements solutions for correction. Performs a wide variety of difficult assignments requiring technical evaluation, innovation and judgement. Understands industry regulatory requirements and Company standards relative to control systems. These jobs are safety-sensitive jobs subject to DOT and Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations. On call 24/7 365 days with rotating shifts. Up to 50% travel may be required. Regular use and/or application of theories/principles/concepts/techniques as obtained by higher education or equivalent experience. Compiles, examines and analyzes information and selects best resolutions to issues of moderate complexity/scope and regularly exercises judgement within defined practices/procedures to determine objectives of assignments and appropriate actions. Works under normal supervision with general instruction on routine work, but more detailed instruction on new projects/assignments. Work is generally reviewed for accuracy and overall adequacy. Has authority to use latitude or make independent decisions regarding matters related to assignments and objectives. Failure to achieve results or erroneous judgements/recommendations may require the allocation of additional resources to correct or achieve goals. **Essential Functions and Responsibilities** + Provides advanced technical and operational expertise and support for industrial control systems and infrastructure to ensure operational needs are met. + Review, update and develop industrial control system technical documentation/drawings including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), cause and effect matrices, and process control narratives. + Participates as a stakeholder in the Project Life Cycle to provide guidance, recommendations, oversite and leadership through all phases of project work associated with control systems and instrumentation. Develop and/or review control system design and architecture, equipment specifications and intended functionality for projects. + Develops Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) programs to address operational needs for new construction projects, maintenance projects or operational requests. + Coordinates and leads the checkout and startup process by interfacing with the Project Manager, Operations, and SCADA, IT, & TAS personnel as needed. + Verifies control system wiring, device functionality and system configurations are complete as well as validates the full system functionality. + Provides Project Management for Controls Technology sponsored projects including estimating and submitting project for approval, providing project management through startup and project closure. + Support the Controls Technology Inventory Management, Obsolescence Management and Risk Management programs. + Support Cyber Security risk reduction efforts through software and firmware evaluations and updates. + Develops and presents training for Operations on new or specialized systems and equipment installed in Engineering projects. + Provides mentoring and oversight to less qualified employees. + Supports multiple locations through both onsite and remote efforts. + Provides Tier 2 support for Operations technician role, including technical support for control systems, instrumentation and equipment, provide programming, commissioning and troubleshooting support for loading rack electronic presets (Accuload/Petrocount), Provides technical support for flowcomputer equipment (Omni/DFM/FlowX), provides commissioning and troubleshooting assistance with network, serial and wireless communication systems utilized for facility operation. + Responsibilities may include Department of Transportation (DOT) covered functions, including operations, maintenance, or emergency response on a pipeline.
