A “Day in the Life" of a Controller, M&A Integrations:
Develop a detailed integration plan including coordination and tracking of tasks for each acquisition in conjunction with the Director and Senior director, Integrations and Chief Transformation Officer covering all areas of finance such as financial reporting, treasury, shared services, FP&A and tax. Liaise with Vice Presidents of the relevant areas to ensure functional alignment to ensure alignment with GFL’s overall strategic integration plan.Lead the integration of newly acquired entities into GFL’s financial reporting:Map the acquired entity’s trial balance to GFL’s trial balance ensuring consistency and alignment with classification of accounts such as operating expense vs. sales, general and administrative expense;Train the staff of the acquired entity on GFL’s close process, timelines, expectations as well as systems and applications such as Workday, Cognos, TRUX, OMS and Tower;Training acquired business on GFL’s financial reporting package and KPI’s;As needed, perform and support the acquired entity’s monthly and quarterly close process to ensure it is successful. This support may be provided locally or centrally;Create monthly G/L entries from the acquired entity’s trial balance for the VP Financial Reporting’s review, approval and posting; andOversee the acquired entity’s balance sheet reconciliations.Act as the main point of contact for GFL requests of the acquired entity’s staff and provide day to day support on administrative issues;The finance staff of the acquired entity will report into the Controller, M&A Integration until the acquired entity is integrated;Work with the relevant finance VPs to ensure reporting lines for staff from the acquired entity are established and communicated asap post acquisition close;Assess the acquired entity’s internal controls compared to a SOX standard and document gaps to be addressed;Perform and review key integration financial analysis including the following:Initial review of working capital calculations;Support working capital settlement/earn out calculations; andTrack and report synergies against targetsRecruit staff to support acquisitions when needed in conjunction with the subject matter VP; andCoach and mentor staff of the acquired entity during a time of transition.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Designated CPA is preferred and 8+ years of related experience;Significant experience integrating acquired entities for both share and asset acquisitions;Exceptional organization /project management skills requiredExperience with a SOX control environment;Strong accounting and external financial reporting knowledge;Knowledge of Great Plains, Workday, Cognos, Tower and Trux are assets;Knowledge of the waste management business is an asset;Ability to work independently and collaboratively;Ability to thrive in a fast-paced ambiguous environment; andDetailed focused.Join us and become part of "Team Green" at GFL Environmental, where your skills and dedication will be valued and rewarded.
