Controller – O&G
Our client, a producer of oil and natural gas, is currently looking for a Controller to join their leadership team in Calgary.
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial accounting and reporting functions related to oil and gas exploration and production activities. This role involves managing a team of accounting professionals, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and contributing to the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles. Manage financial reporting for oil and gas exploration and production activities, including revenue recognition, cost allocation, and depletion calculations. Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to the executive team. Coordinate monthly end process and ensure accuracy and completeness of monthly financial reporting package. Responsible for operational reporting and analysis of variances to targets and historic information.Team Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Provide guidance on complex accounting issues and ensure the team’s understanding of industry-specific regulations.Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, Prepare and review reports required for regulatory filings and provide support during external and internal audits.Internal Controls:
Establish and maintain effective internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial information. Monitor and enforce compliance with company policies and procedures. Drive process improvement to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of accounting team.Budgeting and Forecasting:
Provide leadership to the accounting team to develop budgets and forecasts, providing financial insights to support decision-making. Analyze variances between budgeted and actual financial results.Collaboration:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, IT, legal, and tax, to ensure alignment of financial strategies with business objectives. Provide financial expertise and support to project teams and management.Qualifications:
Professional Accounting Designation 10+ years of professional accounting experience in O&G sector Advanced knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting experience Proven ability to manage numerous deadlines and responsibilities. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Thrives in a collaborative team environment. Self-driven with attention to detail and a positive attitude. Experience with Qbyte is a must.Remuneration:
Remuneration for this role consists of a base salary ranging from 140-150K plus bonus, paid parking, a great benefit program, RSP matching and multiple additional perks!
