GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Controller is a hands-on accounting leader responsible for all accounting and financial reporting activities. This role serves as a succession planning opportunity, working closely with the Director of Finance. The Controller will gain comprehensive experience in financial management, planning, and operational oversight within a hospital setting. The individual in this role must hold a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation and will be positioned to potentially assume increased leadership responsibilities over time.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage the financial reporting process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP, healthcare regulations, and internal policies.
2. Oversee and execute the month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
3. Support budgeting and forecasting activities, analyzing financial trends and variances to provide actionable insights.
4. Monitor and improve internal controls, financial policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance.
5. Assist with audits, including preparation of internal data and coordination with external auditors.
6. Manage cash flow, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes in conjunction with other members of the finance team.
7. Partner with revenue cycle and budget team leaders to ensure alignment of billing, collections, and cash flow management.
8. Implement and improve accounting systems and processes for scalability and efficiency.
9. Participate in strategic financial planning, capital budgeting, and investment analysis.
10. Train and mentor finance staff to build a strong financial team.
11. All other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
2. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
3. Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in healthcare
4. Strong knowledge of GAAP, healthcare finance regulations, and financial reporting standards
5. Experience with ERP systems and financial software (e.g., Epic, Meditech, Lawson, or similar)
6. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
7. Strong leadership and communication abilities, with a desire to grow into an executive finance role
8. Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
9. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with compensation or analytics tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
