Description
We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team in Indianapolis, Indiana, on a Contract-to-Hire basis. This role is integral to ensuring the financial stability of our organization, overseeing all financial activities, and guiding strategic planning efforts. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in nonprofit accounting, leadership, and a hands-on approach to financial management.
Responsibilities:
• Provide comprehensive financial oversight, including reviewing departmental results, advising on budget adherence, and addressing variances to improve profitability.
• Supervise the accounting and finance team, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment with organizational goals.
• Lead audit preparation efforts, update internal control policies, and oversee their implementation across the organization.
• Prepare and present monthly financial statements to the board Treasurer and Finance Committee.
• Coordinate and develop the annual organizational budget, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards while safeguarding the organization’s 501(c)(3) status.
• Collaborate with the Finance Committee and Executive Team to create financial strategies, forecasts, and plans.
• Serve as a key member of the Executive Team, contributing to strategic planning and organizational goal-setting.
• Oversee tax filings, investment monitoring, and financial reporting accuracy.
• Support organizational programs and events by providing financial insights and evaluating efficiency.
Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing finance departments, vendors, or teams.
• Strong background in nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting and compliance standards.
• Proficiency in GAAP accounting principles and preparing annual audited financial statements.
• Experience with month-end close processes, reconciliations, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Familiarity with Abila MIP or similar financial systems is preferred.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines efficiently.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
