Controller
Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team on a contract basis in south suburbs. This position requires someone with extensive expertise in construction accounting to oversee financial operations and ensure compliance with regulations. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to manage budgets and financial reporting in a project-driven environment. Responsibilities: • Manage all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and job cost accounting. • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance. • Monitor project budgets, identify variances, and deliver actionable insights to project managers and senior leadership. • Develop and maintain annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts to support organizational goals. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax filings and audit requirements. • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and uphold financial integrity. • Evaluate the performance of the accounting team and foster a culture of accountability and precision. • Collaborate with project managers and executives to align financial strategies with operational objectives. • Oversee accurate job costing and profitability reporting for ongoing construction projects. • Utilize construction accounting software to streamline processes and optimize efficiency. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior role within the construction industry. • Proficiency in construction accounting software and implementation such as Viewpoint or Sage 300. • Strong understanding of job costing, financial schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting. • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data. • Proven leadership and communication skills to effectively collaborate across departments. • Comprehensive knowledge of financial reporting and compliance requirements. • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, project-oriented environment.
