A Brief Overview The Controller is accountable for the operations of the accounting group. Timely financial reporting, audit engagements, vendor payments, effective inventory processes and sound payroll practices are key functions that are under the direction of the Controller. The position is responsible for the maintenance and development of the chart of accounts, accounting controls as well as financial reporting. The Controller works closely with various groups to provide management reports. What you will do Supervise, trains and develops the Accounting department employees. Works with operations to ensure all business activity is posted correctly and in a timely manner. Reviews and reconciles balance sheet accounts. Responsible for various regulatory, governmental, and banking compliance reporting. Oversees monthly financial close process. Assists in budgeting, forecasting and regulatory reporting. Assists in development of departmental/organizational policies and procedures. Assists with tariff rate filings. Organizes and plans financial statement audit, employee benefit plan audit, and other various audit work. Reviews and updates monthly closing procedures. Conditions of Employment Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Required 5+ years Public Accounting experience. Required 3 years Supervisory Experience. Required Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications with ability to learn industry specific software. Knowledge of computerized and manual accounting systems. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Understanding of regulatory accounting and ratemaking preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Skilled in organizing work materials and time. Ability to document and explain complex accounting transactions. Ability to incorporate industry changes into business process and financials. Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Knowledge of tax accounting preferred.
