Job Title: Controller, Nonprofit Job Description As a member of the finance leadership team, the Corporate Controller (CC) will lead with high standards, motivate others positively, and make critical decisions. The CC will manage self and others with urgency, practicality, and accountability. This role involves designing and implementing process changes, leading all day-to-day accounting operations, supervising the corporate accounting group, and ensuring the organization has the internal controls and procedures to support effective operations and safeguard assets. Responsibilities + Supervise Accounts Payable staff, Staff Accountants, and contracted accounting support. + Collaborate with leadership and management teams to support efficient operations. + Complete corporate month-end and year-end accounting close processes timely and review monthly balance sheet account reconciliations. + Work with Accounts Payable Supervisor to ensure quality and accuracy of data entry and timely payments. + Prepare cash-flow reports and monitor daily cash management to ensure sufficient balances in property bank accounts. + Review monthly payroll-related accounting entries with the Payroll group. + Administer corporate credit cards and oversee monthly reconciliation and posting of expenses. + Prepare monthly department budget vs. actual reports and coordinate variance explanations. + Prepare monthly and quarterly interim financial statements for management and board discussions. + Lead the audit process for the corporate audit and support annual 990 tax filings. + Prepare the corporate budget in collaboration with the Management team and manage budget variances and forecasts. + Administer grant billing processes and ensure timely billing and recording of receipts. + Handle commercial accounting for third-party-managed commercial properties, including monthly deposits, receipts, expenses, and accruals. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience. + 5+ years of accounting or equivalent experience. + 2+ years of supervisory experience and at least 4 years of finance management experience. + Experience in real estate development/construction accounting, low-income housing development accounting, and/or property management accounting. + Advanced proficiency in Excel, including vlookups, pivot tables, and advanced data analysis. + Proficiency in MS Office applications such as Outlook and Word. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Knowledge of State and Federal Wage and Hours laws preferred. Work Environment You will work with a team including Accounts Payable staff (Direct report – 1, Indirect – 3), Staff Accountants (3), and contracted accounting support. The role involves collaborating with various departments and utilizing accounting software and tools to ensure efficient operations.
