Position Summary
TheControlleris pivotal in overseeing the comprehensive financial operations of the organization. This role is responsible for instituting rigorous accounting frameworks, enhancing financial practices, and upholding procedures to facilitate precise and prompt financial reporting. With direct oversight of General Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable (AP), Grants, Purchasing and Billing operations, the Controller ensures efficient resource allocation and meticulous execution of financial tasks. Reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will have direct contact with senior-level management.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
+ Financial Management: Direct all aspects of accounting functions, including billing, financial statements, general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and grant reporting
+ Reporting & Compliance: Guarantee timely and accurate financial closings monthly and annually, manage quarterly bank compliance activities, and support a streamlined year-end audit in collaboration with auditors
+ Team Leadership & Development: Lead the finance team, ensuring adherence to financial reporting schedules, and provide training to enhance staff competencies
+ Strategic Oversight: Assist the CFO with daily banking requirements, cash management strategies, and respond to financial inquiries from senior management
+ Operational Efficiency: Analyze departmental workflows to propose and implement improvements that increase efficiency while maintaining accuracy
+ Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain robust communication with the CFO, CEO, and other key stakeholders, ensuring clarity on financial matters and compliance with reporting requirements
+ Project Management: Handle special projects and support the introduction of new systems and processes to optimize departmental effectiveness
+ Additional: This role may require the performance of other job-related duties as assigned by the CFO
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Experience in the healthcare sector and non-profit accounting is beneficial
+ Technical Skills: High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, and Word). Experience with Great Plains or similar automated accounting systems is a plus
+ Competencies: Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines
Education, Training and Experience
+ Education: BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in accounting is required. A CPA certification or MBA is highly preferred
+ Experience: Minimum of five to ten years of supervisory experience in financial reporting, general ledger management, payroll, and accounts payable. Previous experience as a Controller is advantageous
