Controller
This position will oversee all accounting functions of a general contracting firm with nationwide operations. They will manage a team of six personnel and play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial operations. Position may have potential to grow into the CFO role.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES:
Accounting Operations:
+ Lead and mentor a team of six, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to deadlines.
+ Ensure compliance with internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with Company financial policies.
+ Oversee payroll operations to ensure timely and accurate processing of employee compensation and compliance with all federal, state, and local tax deductions.
+ Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable operations to ensure timely and accurate processing
Financial Reporting:
+ Prepare and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for management and stakeholders.
+ Reconcile accounts and review financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
+ Manage the annual audit and tax filings across multiple states performed by an independent accountant/auditor.
Compliance and Licensing:
+ Monitor all existing State licenses to ensure all entities remain in good standing and assist in the acquisition of new licenses when requested.
+ Employee Benefits Support:
Coordinate with Benefits Coordinator to ensure accurate integration of payroll and employee benefit programs, including 401(k) and cafeteria plans.
+ Oversee benefit-related financial reporting and compliance with applicable regulations.
+ Manage the Self-insured health coverage and distribute funds as necessary.
Insurance and Risk Management Support:
+ Assist management in assessing and addressing insurance needs to mitigate risk and work with brokers and insurance professionals to renew policies on an annual basis.
+ Maintain relationships with insurance brokers and professionals to ensure the best coverage and service.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
+ Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred, MBA a plus).
+ Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in accounting with a preference for 2-3 years in a leadership role.
+ Experience in the construction industry is strongly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES:
+ Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
+ Experience with multi-entity accounting and multi-state tax compliance.
+ Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
+ Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on mentoring and development.
+ Proficiency in accounting and financial software, with experience in ERP systems preferred.
+ Experience with Sage 300 CRE and/or Sage Intact a plus.
+ Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and accountability.
+ Effective communicator with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
+ Ability to maintain professional relationships with outside partners such as banks and surety companies.
+ Adaptable and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
+ Ability to hear, comprehend and speak.
+ Ability to work with standard office equipment .
+ Ability to sit for long periods of time.
