Description
We are offering a contract employment opportunity for a Controller in the industry, based in East Bay. This role is primarily focused on managing financial transactions and ensuring they are recorded accurately in the general ledger. You will also be responsible for monitoring budgets, coordinating with external auditors, managing the accounting team, and more.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the accounting team, providing training, oversight, and performance evaluations
• Oversee the accurate and efficient processing of financial transactions in the general ledger
• Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for both internal and external use
• Manage budget monitoring for various projects, ensuring they align with strategic goals
• Collaborate with external auditors for annual audits, ensuring compliance with relevant standards
• Oversee the preparation of tax forms and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
• Work closely with property managers to monitor rental income, operating expenses, and capital improvements
• Manage the reporting and allocation of grants or donations, keeping donors updated on the status of funded projects
• Oversee cash flow projections for ongoing and future projects to ensure sufficient liquidity
• Establish and enforce financial policies and procedures to safeguard resources
• Review financial risks associated with operations and ensure adequate risk mitigation plans are in place
• Communicate financial updates to the executive team, board of directors, and other stakeholders
• Manage accounting software tailored to the specific needs of the organization
• Ensure proper documentation of financial policies and transactions for audits and compliance.
Requirements
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of 8 years’ experience including 4+ years of experience leading team of accounting staff
+ Prior experience with non-profit and Grant Administration
+ Comprehensive understanding of advanced financial accounting and external reporting concepts and processes including knowledge of GAAP, consolidation, and internal controls
+ Proven ability to evaluate, develop and enhance systems and processes to build organizational capacity
+ Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
+ Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to prioritize work effectively and adjust to multiple demands
+ Proven track record of communicating effectively both internally and externally
+ Proven ability to maintain a positive approach to work challenges
