Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Controller with a strong background in the construction industry to join our team. The Controller will play a crucial role in overseeing financial operations, budgeting, and financial reporting for our construction projects. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of construction accounting principles, cost control, and project financial management. It is ideal for a this person to have previous experience with either Sage or Procore Accounting Software.
Responsibilities:Financial Management:Manage the financial aspects of construction projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.Monitor project budgets and expenses to ensure adherence to financial goals and provide timely reports to project managers.Analyze project costs and recommend cost-saving strategies where possible.Financial Reporting:Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for construction projects.Generate financial reports that comply with industry-specific accounting standards and regulations.Present financial reports and analysis to senior management and project stakeholders.Budgeting and Forecasting:Develop and maintain project budgets, ensuring they are aligned with project goals and objectives.Collaborate with project managers to create accurate financial forecasts, identifying potential risks and opportunities.Monitor budget vs. actual performance and provide variance analysis.Cost Control:Implement effective cost control measures to optimize project profitability.Identify areas for cost reduction and implement strategies to improve project margins.Conduct regular cost reviews and cost-to-complete analyses.Compliance and Audit:Ensure compliance with all accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry-specific requirements.Coordinate with external auditors for project-related audits and provide necessary documentation.Financial Systems:Oversee the use of financial software and systems, ensuring accurate and efficient data management.Recommend and implement improvements to financial systems and processes.Team Management:Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals responsible for project financial management.Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree or CPA preferred).Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controller or in a similar financial management role within the construction industry.Thorough understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing and WIP (Work in Progress) accounting.Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems, with experience in accounting software used in the construction industry (e.g., Procore, Sage, Viewpoint).Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and presentation skills.Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
