Controls & Automation Specialist (REMOTE WITH TRAVEL)

Compensation Range: $90,000-$120,000 

Compensation may vary based on applicant's work experience, education level, skill set, and/or location.  

Job Purpose

Working on the Operation Technology Systems (OTS) Team, the Controls & Automation Specialist, will be the liaison with the local plant Controls teams, the IT Infrastructure teams and the other OTS team members to design, plan, and deploy Enterprise SCADA automation solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and integrate SCADA software systems utilizing Ignition. Implement PLC, Robot, and PC controlled HMI interface logic changes. Work with the local plant controls team on all project based OTS deployments. Work with the various plant teams to create and adhere to standards to Plant Technologies. Develop PLC based Ethernet communications and control Provide technical support to maintenance and operations. Support production with respect to throughput, safety, scrap, quality, ergonomics, and flexibility. Justify, plan and execute capital expenditure requests Implement manufacturing process improvements. Coordinate electrical control equipment build, installation and training. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
BS degree in engineering or industrial technology
A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment in an automation engineer role
Proven ability to program, and debug, Allen-Bradley SLC, CompactLogix and ControlLogix platforms
Proven ability to develop HMI applications
Ability to interpret complicated, vendor supplied electrical/electronic schematics required
Ability to interpret, and apply, NEC codes to an industrial facility required
Ability to debug / troubleshoot and program Allen Bradly / Siemens S7 PLC programming preferred
Robot programming/troubleshooting (Adept & Fanuc), Electrical CodeAbility to develop HMI packages with Visual Studio and Factory Talk components preferred
Familiarity with Ethernet based OPC data transfer preferred
Ability to debug / troubleshoot Fanuc Robot programming preferred
Ability to apply DMAIC, and SPC based quality principles preferred

Language Skills:  College level written and verbal English skills

Mathematical Skills:  College level math applicable to engineering

Reasoning Ability:  Strong Root cause problem solving, visualization

Computer Skills:  Microsoft Office and project management software experience required. Advanced computer skills in computer aided design, application and project management preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Lean, Six Sigma or project management certification preferred.


Other Skills and Abilities:  
Ability to develop and integrate SCADA software systems utilizing Ignition
Proficient with programming software - RSLogix 500 PLC Programming Software; RSLogix 5000 PLC Programming Software Utilizing Ladder, SFC, and Structured Text; RSLinx for OPC Data Transfer; VB.Net / VB 2010 / Visual Studio 2010 Programming Environments
Additional programming software preferred – Siemens S7 Programming Software Utilizing Ladder, SFC, Control Block and Structured Text
Understanding of VFD and VFD controls

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None 

Travel Required:  Up to 50%

This position involves office and factory exposure including occasional exposure to high levels of background noise.  The worker is also subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current and exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals and lead. 

General Job Requirements Must be able to lift 25 pounds/11.5 kilos on occasions. Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch. Must be able and willing to do overnight travel
