Job Description:
This Controls Engineer-Pilot Plant role will be essential in supporting pilot plant operations for the development of new products and process technologies. The scope of the role will include leading and/or supporting research and development projects in the areas of electrical, controls, pilot plant IT, physical automation and digital technology systems. The individual in this role will be responsible for all aspects of planning, designing and executing projects in these areas from ideation to project closure. The role owns the overall leadership of controls, automation, and digital systems for the GIC pilot plants. This role will be based out of the Global Innovation Center in Chicago, IL.
What are we looking for?
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Chemical or equivalent
3-5+ years' experience in a comparable technical position - food, beverage, pharmaceutical or related industry preferably.
Basic understanding of engineering principles - knowledge of engineering disciplines: Process, Packaging, Electrical, Controls, Automation, Construction and/or Computer Services.
Proficiency working within controls systems, in at least one of the following platforms. E.g. Allen Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, Iconics.
Ability to troubleshoot and maintain existing control systems.
Basic understanding of Operational/Information technology principles and application.
Up to 10% travel requirement depending on project demands.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Controls/Electrical/Electronics including courses in Computer Science or an advanced degree in Engineering
5+ years’ experience in a comparable technical position - food, beverage, pharmaceutical or related industry preferable
In-depth understanding of designated functional engineering area of expertise (for specific job requirement i.e. controls, electrical, automation, information technology)
Can effectively communicate business needs and project deliverables to members of senior leadership, to obtain stakeholder buy-in.
What will be your key responsibilities?
Development of control systems for automating manufacturing processes and packaging systems
Control Systems design, which includes developing control concepts & functional and equipment specifications
Directing the modifications, installation, and integration of systems in the following areas: electrical and power distribution, control systems, pilot plant IT (servers, networks, Wi-Fi, etc.), physical automation, and Digital Plant Technology systems.
Ensuring delivery of assigned objectives for scope, time, and budget
Development of project submittals, including scoping, budgeting, risk assessment, and closure.
Seeking and applying appropriate technologies to gain and sustain technical competitive advantage
Designing systems and selecting hardware and/or directing third-party engineering and/or system Integrator firms Providing design services to meet their contract deliverables
Responsible for the application of engineering standards and tools
Actively planning and leading project activities in a cross functional team environment
Supporting safety, security and environmental policies Understanding and supporting the Five Principles, Vision to Win, and the Winning Environment Specify/recommend pilot plant IT components and systems Recognize lifecycle for IT Infrastructure and Controls Systems and develop appropriate mitigation plan Support all topics related to pilot plant IT Infrastructure and Cyber Security. Collaborate with and communicate changes in pilot plant IT infrastructure to Site IT team. Demonstrate a clear understanding of IT problems and opportunities to justify business change

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
