Job Overview
The Controls Engineer 1 serves as an electrical controls resource for plant process improvement and capital expansion projects. Plant level contact for manufacturing support of installed systems. Project focus will be implementation of PLC / Robotic based automation in Great Lakes Cheese manufacturing plants and processes.
Job Responsibilities
+ Monitor, maintain and support plant-wide automation systems. Provide automation controls discipline and technical leadership to the packaging facility. Support the development of engineering standards and best practices.
+ Assimilate a thorough understanding of all aspects of the PLC-based shop floor automation and control systems equipment for high speed processing and packaging applications.
+ Design Process Controls Systems & Strategies. Apply automation and controls solutions to meet site, network, and business unit objectives for productivity, safety, quality and cost.
+ Specify, Procure & Perform maintenance on PLC and HMI systems including programming & backups of programs.
+ Specify & procure VFDs, Servo Drives, Motors, control hardware, and field instrumentation.
+ Control Panel Design / Wiring, ensure implementation of standards and best practices.
+ Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests and lead the FAT team on appropriate projects.
+ Provide technical coaching and mentoring of plant resources in controls and automation

Required Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Recent college grads are encouraged to apply
+ High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
+ Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
+ Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts
+ Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients
+ Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
+ Ability to work with and influence peers and management
+ Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
+ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
+ Skilled in computer –aided design and drafting software applications (AutoCAD)
+ General understanding of Process Network Infrastructure (Ethernet), controls hardware and field instrumentation.
+ Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, motion control and communications systems.
+ Critical thinking with exceptional problem solving skills, able to work independently and in team environments.
+ Proactive, resourceful & highly motivated with strong communication skills and ability to work in high output environment.
+ Ability to manage multiple projects, equipment upgrades and resources, troubleshoot and problem solve.
+ Ability to travel to project / work sites as required. Not expected to exceed 25%, but is subject to engineering project workload.
Preferred Education and Experience
+ PLC programming, RSLogix. Studio 5000, Factory Talk Studio ME HMI Software
+ Rockwell training/certification.
+ Robotic control systems including Fanuc, ABB, Kawasaki , and similar systems.
+ Motor and drive controls, Both VFD and servo systems
+ Experience with development of Control System Function Design Specification
+ Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) & Process Flow Diagrams (PFD)
+ Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD.
+ Ability to manage contractors & service support
+ Ability to develop effective working relationships with suppliers, customers and coworkers.
+ Project Management
+ Familiar with NEC, NFPA, ANSI, UL, and OSHA safety codes and standards
Working Conditions
• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
• Work is performed across multiple sites, office setting, warehouse floor (cold environment) and in various locations as needed.
