Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Production Engineering Battery department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Controls Engineer to work in the Battery group focused on controls engineering.
The primary responsibility of this position is to set up and verify systems used for battery manufacturing data analytics to support new model launches. Other responsibilities include developing, specifying, coordinating, and executing all internal control requirements for data collection for the Battery department. Documentation of the planning and implementation of these systems is required, as well as training for the local NAMC Team Members on these systems.
This position will be located at TBMNC in Liberty, NC and report to the Engineering Manager for Battery.
The person in this role will support the Battery department's objective to execute Capital Projects from planning thru Start of Production (SOP).
The successful candidate must be effective at identifying and removing roadblocks that hinder progress. They should be capable of identifying appropriate work priorities, developing and executing detailed schedules, and proactively reporting their status to the management group. Working as a team in a cross-functional environment is paramount for success.
What you’ll be doing
Support shop floor-level implementation of network systems, which includes andon and Manufacturing Execution System (MES), as well as connectivity to higher level IT-managed systems, i.e. Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM).
Support battery network system plans and specifications, applying knowledge of OPC-UA, CC-Link, SQL, and SCADA system implementation.
Configuring manufacturing equipment PLCs (primarily Mitsubishi) for network systems connectivity using SLMP, Ethernet TCP, and Ethernet IP protocols.
Support implementation and intuitive visualizations for line status and health indication.
Setup, configuration and long-term support of servers.
Collaborating across functional, company, and international boundaries to drive progress and achieve project goals.
Planning and monitoring installation of network systems, identifying field issues, and working closely with construction coordinators to countermeasure.
Supporting and maintaining detailed schedules
Contributing to the “zero incidents is possible” safety culture by exemplifying safe work behaviors, complying with Toyota construction safety requirements, and correcting unsafe conditions without fail.
Participating in a mentor program to grow as an engineer and learn from others.
Staying up to date on industry best practices and advancements in Industry 4.0.
What you bring
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or similar technical field OR 5+ years of equivalent professional experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience with production preparation of manufacturing network systems, validation, installation, pre-production trials and launch.
PLC experience including the ability to Read, interpret and modify.
SQL / Oracle or other database experience.
Experience developing code and troubleshooting communication protocols (FL Net, IP, RFID, RS232/485, CC-Link, Modubus, and other PLC protocols.
Experience with computer software programming for Andon visualization
Ability to support weekends, off shift, and holidays as needed
Ability to work the two shutdown times of the year in July and December
Ability for business travel, both domestic and international will be up to 25%

Experience with Kepware software or similar SCADA Data systems
