Controls Engineer
Job Description

The Controls Systems Engineer is an Individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work you're doing throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution.

Ability to work 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts, weekends as neededDevelop and document requirements required to design an automotive systemDesign and manage key strategic interfaces within systems to enable component reuse and consistency to standard methodologiesOversee requirements development with other activitiesProvide support to other specialists for root cause analysisStrong ability to expertly capture and analyze empirical data.Design Tests to efficiently find opportunities for design improvementsStay on top of industry trends, technologies, and standard methodologiesIdentify and document system vulnerabilities and craft mitigation action plans; track corrective actionsDesign, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of the electrical and control aspects of equipment and tools required for the production of body shop assembliesSupport ME (Manufacturing Engineering) team in Business Plan Deployment (BPD) processExisting production support troubleshooting, diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, etc.Support the TIP (Throughput Improvement process) Continuous Improvement initiativesSupport the development of error proofing/error proofing validation plansContinuously improve quality, cost, responsiveness & safetyParticipate in safety g-Risk activities with cross functional groupConduct Equipment build/run-off and buyoff processesSupport installation of projects including new zone installationsSupport the deliverables of product launchesWork collaboratively with all stakeholders.Maintain working contacts with vendors, GM IT, other internal engineering disciplines and management at plant and headquarters

Preferred Skills:

3-5 years in the following:

Experience in Control Architectures:PLC:   Allen Bradley / SiemensFanuc RoboticsHMI (TIA Portal, FactoryTalk, PanelBuilder, PanelMate)Vision:   Banner / Fanuc iR VisionVariable Frequency Drive (VFD):   Allen Bradley / SiemensNetworks: DeviceNet, EthernetKnowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives.Experience in Fanuc robots setup and programming.Management of projects through purchasing processesManagement of deliveries to program timing milestones.Preferred GM Global Common Controls ArchitectureKnowledge of high voltage power distribution

Education:

Preferred - Bachelor’s degree with major in engineering and equivalent experience/training.
