Controls Engineer

Job Summary 

Serves as engineering lead in the electrical/controls discipline and resource across the organization.  Job duties include developing and improving sitewide electrical control design and control safety standards and supporting project teams in developing and executing the electrical/controls scope of work.  The position also develops and implements programs that build ConAgra control capabilities.  This is geared to develop subject matter expertise in Food Plant Control Systems and manage and lead corporate wide programs. 

Position Responsibilities

Navigate and program all Allen Bradley Software Platforms (RS Logix 5, RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, Factory Talk View ME)Program Allen Bradley and ABB Variable Frequency Drives, managed network switches (Stratix), Process Control Devices.Check Monitor, maintain and install building automation system for HVAC, fume hoods, exhaust fans, environmental growth chambers and related systems.Collaborates with all platform engineering groups to develop annual and 3-year capital plans by recommending automation, controls, and power distribution improvements and solutions that are commercially proven in both concept and performance to meet platform cost and growth goals.Assists in developing site wide standards, guidelines, and templates for automation, control hardware, software, and programming.Assists in developing and implementing programs to build plant control systems and support systems such as servo control, HMI’s, Networking, and VFD’sProvides site wide support for control obsolescence and control software update issues.Collaborates with the technical and procurement group to help manage and drive value and cost savings from Rockwell as a strategic supplier.Assists in developing rough order of magnitude estimates to give the business a directional early view of a project and the robustness of the business case.Works with other engineering disciplines to assist in designing and specifying complete and effective control solutions within the enterprise-wide method of Front Ending Loading Packages (FEL’s)Performs reviews (own work and peer reviews) of FEL packages or equivalent for accuracy, completeness, and operational effectiveness including but not limited to:Control Wiring and Safety Circuit DrawingsUser Requirement and Functional Requirement DocumentsTechnology assessment and recommendation evaluation that reflect plant, ConAgra, and industry best-in-class practices.Equipment and system performance criteriaIdentification of Alternatives, Pre-requisites, Risks, and OpportunitiesProvides on-site technical support to project and plant teams during design reviews, initial start-up activities, and periods of focused improvement implementation.Provides emergency technical support where equipment may need modification for immediate improvement in an upset condition.Assists in providing recommendation, evaluation, and oversight of 3rd party integrators as requiredKeeps current and incorporates as needed the latest automation and control technology  and commercial application of the sameKeeps current and incorporates as needed the latest and emerging industry regulations and codes relative to automation, controls, and system design and operation

Position Qualifications

A BS degree in Electrical Engineering in addition to practical experience (3-10 yrs.) in electrical/control system design.Knowledge with Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley PLC's, Panel View HMI’s, and Rockwell Automation Software - RSLogix5000 and FTView.A minimum of 3+ years’ experience in PLC programming or equivalent amount of technical schooling and experience.Network integration capabilities, PLC's, HMI’s, and CIPUnderstanding of network hardware and software securityMust have the ability to work with integration and ERP systems.Effective in working collaboratively within a matrix organization.Strong leadership qualities, verbal and written communication skillsUnderstanding of food manufacturing regulations a plusExcellent technical knowledge, technical analysis, problem solving skills and project organizational skills are required. Proven ability to work within a multi-plant and cross-functional matrix organization.Experience in food manufacturing operations and food manufacturing conceptual design is an advantage.

Compensation: 

Pay Range:$79,000-$115,000

The annual salary listed above is the expected offering for this position. An employee’s actual annual salary will be based on but not limited to: location, relevant experience/level and skillset, while balancing internal Conagra employees’ equity. Conagra Brands will comply with applicable law regarding minimum salaries for exempt employees.
