Controls Engineer – Princeton, IL

The Controls Engineer is responsible with the design and implementation of manufacturing technology to automate production processes. This individual will analyze production requirements, design/select the equipment to be used, define, model, document the processes, oversee and test for the correct installation/implementation. Analysis will include finding ways to improve current production processes, optimization through automation, as well as designing new systems in order to improve production processes.

   

What You Will Do:

Design, configuration, integration, test and implementation of process control solutions3D model all solutions while creating the correlating prints, schematics, and diagrams Design, write, implement, test, and document PLC and HMI softwareDevelop control system validation/testing protocolsSpecify, propose, budget, and obtain approval for purchase of process instrumentation, PLC’s, drives, and other components for new equipmentDevelop, manage and lead project plans to include estimate of all timelines and expenses to complete projects. Monitors project progress, reports variances, resolves issues to maintain scheduled project deliverablesInstall, test and start-up control systemsDevelop DOE’s to optimize automated processesTroubleshoot non-functioning parts, calibrate devices and correct errors in the automation software to ensure safety and proper function of existing and newly automated systems. Provides support to maintenance in ensuring appropriate problem resolution when troubleshooting is required.Train operators, Team Leaders, maintenance and other parties on control systems during new project startup and implementationProvides support to Process Engineering in vendor sourced automationReview, repair and redesign legacy code. Assists in establishing new and maintaining existing standardsExperience guiding technicians through equipment fabrication & implementationPerform other duties as required

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

3-5 years’ experience in the automation industryProficient in design and drafting tools such as AutoCAD & CREO 3D Modeling software for development of controls systems & BOMs for implementationExperience with Programming Logic Controllers, Allen Bradley preferredProven ability to configure and design HMI/OIT systemsWorking knowledge of industry standards, vision systems, motion controllers and actuatorsExperience with SCADA systems and platforms (Ignition)Experience implementing Servo motors & drives and tuning for optimal performanceCapable of controls migrations from obsolete hardware versions to current controllers and softwareDevelopment of new solutions from scratch ranging in various levels of complexityExperience and skill in troubleshooting control system issuesControl Panel assembly experience and familiar with best practicesKnowledge of implementing controls-based safety systems; Light Curtains, Area Scanners, multipoint controls, pressure mats, interlocks, e-stops, etc.Ability to work effectively in independent situations and exercise good judgment to reach sound conclusionsAbility to use Kanban workflows for designing optimal part replenishment schemesServer and PC integration for data collectionAnalog and digital instrumentationSetup of robotic and motion systems, end of arm tooling, for Fanuc and SCARA style systemsAbility to establish and maintain effective work relationshipsExcellent written and oral communication skills, to include technical writingProven ability to prioritize, work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlinesProven critical thinker and innovative problem solverMust be organized, detail oriented and able to think designs through completelyAbility to follow written and verbal instructions, schedules, rules, procedures, etc.General knowledge of manufacturing machinery

Compensation: This range is provided by Allegion. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.

The expected Base Salary Range: $77,000-$110,000.  The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
