Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing improvements to control systems and equipment using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data, leading problem-solving efforts, and troubleshooting machinery, robot, automation, and controls issues. This role requires strong technical expertise and the ability to work collaboratively with manufacturing personnel and plant electricians.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and implement improvements to control systems and equipment using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data.
+ Lead problem solving in resolving equipment performance issues.
+ Lead troubleshooting; coordinate resources to find root cause and fixes, manage and break down problems into items that can be validated.
+ Assist in the training of manufacturing personnel and plant electricians.
+ Assist in integration of controls into IT systems like Factory Information Systems (FIS), Error Proofing, QWX, and QTS.
+ Troubleshoot machinery, robot, automation, and controls issues and downtime.
+ Use FIS plant monitoring software to review cycle times of equipment.
+ Review and coordinate project installations.
+ Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements.
+ Maintain program backups for machinery and automation.
+ Program new installations of automation, machinery, material handling, and robots.
+ Review risk assessments as part of a team evaluating equipment safety.
Essential Skills
+ 3+ years of Controls Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
+ 3+ years of experience with PLC logic, controls, Siemens and Modicon programming.
+ Experience with CNC machining and CNC programming.
+ Experience with automation technologies.
+ Electrical Engineering Degree or applicable experience.
+ Familiarity with Siemens Step 7 programming and troubleshooting.
+ Knowledge of Siemens power line and solution line configuration and programming.
+ Fanuc controls troubleshooting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Machining experience
+ Ability to work with UAW maintenance, vendors, and other process team members.
+ Strong communication skills (verbal and email).
+ Familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
+ Familiar with UL508A requirements and NFPA79.
+ Familiar with Pro-tag and Midas check sheets.
+ Familiar with CPN/MPN design and configuration.
+ Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, and coolant design & functionality.
+ Experience with laser operation and laser safety.
+ Knowledge of programmable safety design and operation.
+ Understanding of CNC design and operation.
+ Proficiency in risk assessment processes.
+ Familiarity with RFID tag map and controls (Allen Bradley and Siemens).
+ Understanding of all controls systems lifecycle (obsolescence).
+ Knowledge of ECPL and Access task process and design.
+ Experience with Allen Bradley RS Logix, Control Logix, and Micro Logix.
Work Environment
You will work in a dynamic manufacturing environment, collaborating with diverse teams to ensure the optimal performance of control systems and equipment. The role involves both office and plant floor settings, requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment as needed. Standard work hours apply, with potential for shift work depending on project requirements.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.87 - $42.88/hr.
