Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
The Plant Floor Systems – Error Proofing Controls Engineer is at the forefront of innovation in manufacturing, driving the implementation of cutting-edge Error Proofing systems that enhance efficiency and quality.
This dynamic role involves collaborating with automation execution teams and plant personnel to tackle technical challenges head-on, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
As part of a central manufacturing engineering team, you will have the opportunity to provide impactful support to vehicle assembly plants, unleashing your creativity and initiative. You'll be engaged in the thrilling development, testing, and piloting of advanced process technologies, making a significant difference in the way we produce vehicles and ensuring excellence on the plant floor.
What You'll Do
Support lab functions, including requests for time, equipment, and space.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and maintain overall lab status, cleanliness, and operation.
Enter and track facilities requests related to the lab and manage lab inventory, including materials, cables, and equipment.
Conduct monthly safety walkthroughs to ensure compliance and safety standards.
Support and train resources on new initiatives and error-proofing processes.
Collaborate with plants to address error-proofing issues and provide direction, including potential travel for piloting new processes or equipment.
Perform PFS validation tasks, including SATs and UATs, to ensure system effectiveness.
Additional Job DescriptionYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Self-motivated multitasker with the ability to provide technical direction both face-to-face and remotely.
Proficient critical thinking and analytical skills, complemented by effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
Relevant plant job experience, with a commitment to maintaining technical competency in the field.
Bachelor's degree in Lean Manufacturing, Electronics, Computer Science, information technology, or equivalent degree or experience.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Proficient in Error Proofing technology and applications, with hands-on experience in PLC and HMI programming, as well as Ethernet and DeviceNet networks.
Project management skills with a demonstrated ability to teach and mentor others.
General knowledge of plant floor systems, including Error Proofing, Production Monitoring and Control, and Andon Systems.
Understanding of the vehicle manufacturing process and parts design interface for Error Proofing applications.
Hands on experience in automation controls design, project execution within GM with knowledge of GM Common controls Hardware and Software
