The Controls Technician SkillBridge intern will receive on-the-job hands-on experience and formal certification/training in the installation (commissioning), troubleshooting, repairing, and programming of environmental control systems. Interns will not spend 100% of their time on any one task/project/job, and the intern will observe/participate in multiple projects (or one large project with diversity of work). Our interns are viewed as entry-level, junior “controls tech" and will work alongside experienced professionals. Day to day work include:
End to end testing, programming, starting up, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects. Install and configure field controllers. Setup the graphical interface and network connections for the controls. Setup and configure a full front-end including graphics, schedules, trends, and alarming. Gather all project documentation to create as-builts to close out the project.In addition, the intern will participate in a virtual building automation and controls certification course, that includes a lab component, designed to enhance your internship experience, and prepare you for a career in this field of work. Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
Apply basic control concepts and systems knowledge in simulated real-world job activities. Apply controls theory in a systematic way for commissioning and troubleshooting. Successfully install and commission selected System Controls following sequence of operation. Demonstrate basic knowledge of air systems, chilled water, boilers, and heat pumps and their relationships. Effectively complete selected routine Controls Tech I level commissioning tasks. Access performance support and help documentation when needed.What you will bring:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Official SkillBridge approval is required for this role. Ideal duration is 120-180 days of internship. 4+ years of direct military work experience in Electrical, Electronics, Information Technology, HVAC, or another applicable skillset for this career path is preferred. Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software and working proficiency with handheld computers (i.e. Smartphones, iPad). Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.Additional Requirements and Environmental Exposure:
Must be able to safely and legally operate a vehicle using a seatbelt. Must be able to wear helmets, safety goggles, fall protection harness and safety boots to safely perform job duties. Must be able to twist the trunk of your body 90 degrees in each direction. Must be able to squat and touch the floor with both hands. Must be able to reach your hands over your head. Must be able to stand on concrete surfaces for extended periods, routinely up to 4 hours. This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling and climbing ladders. It requires employees to regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move more than 40 lbs. Must be able to safely use a ladder with a 350 lb. total weight limit, while carrying equipment of 50 lbs. or less. Must be able to maneuver confined access areas, as small as 30” vertical x 45” horizontal. Must be able to comfortably and routinely access rooftops with extension and/or fixed ladders at heights of 15’ to 20’, and occasionally, up to 50+ feet. This role may be exposed to variable weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, risk of electrical shock, noisy operating equipment and other variable environmental conditions based on location.Equal Employment Opportunity:
