Summary About the position: This position is located at the This position will be assigned to the Child Development Center on JB Charleston SC Air base. Physical Effort: Frequent lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Constant standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, and bending. Drug Testing Designated Position. The incumbent is subject to a random testing for drug use. (IAW AFI 44-107 Dtd 7 April 2010). Responsibilities I. INTRODUCTION: The function of the organization where this position is located is in official functional statements located in the HRO. The purpose of this position is to plan and prepare balanced meals and snacks. II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: a. Cooking - Prepares a full range of nutritious food for approximately 200 plus children per day, supplying them with the USDA required supplements of vitamins and nutrition. Responsible for cooking breakfast, lunch and snacks for the children, and responsible for following the correct portion sizes for all ages. The cook is solely responsible for the measurements and ingredients in the food prepared by herself/himself and the other staff who work in the kitchen. The cook is also responsible for planning special meals such as scheduled events (Parent luncheons, Family Nights, etc.) and modified children's diets as needed. b. Under the guidance of the Director, follows preplanned cycle menus and rotates periodically as directed. Adjusts daily menus as required by changing attendance. c. Determines quantities of food and supplies required. Submits requisitions sufficiently in advance to insure adequate supply of items on hand. Adjusts orders in accordance with anticipated requirements. d. Washes, thaws, mixes, fries, streams, stews, boils, bakes, mashes, and otherwise prepares soups, meats, fish, chicken, sandwiches, vegetables, etc. e. Maintains stoves, refrigerators, equipment, and utensils in safe and sanitary condition. Insures that dishwasher operation is consistent with sanitation rules. Stores plates and trays. Maintains inventory of food, supplies, and equipment on hand. Keeps working area clean and safe. Conducts weekly self-inspections. f. Conducts Bi-annual nutrition sessions for staff. g. Conducts monthly and quarterly inventories. h. Performs other related duties as assigned. Position is a position of trust. III. CONTROLS OVER WORK: Works under the supervision of the Assistant Director, who provides policy and dietary guidance. Work is reviewed for nutritiousness, attractiveness, and taste. Guidelines include local operating instructions. Assistance by be obtained from dietary personnel at USAF Hospital and USDA, if required, IV. Must have knowledge and experience in preparing, cooking, and serving a variety of menu items such as soups, meats, fish, chicken, gravy, sauces, etc. Must have a knowledge of yielding testing to determine portion cost and to adjust ingredients in standard recipes for altering number of servings required. Must have experience in preparing special and modified diets. Must be experienced in ordering, issuing, and storing food items IA W inventory and sanitation requirements. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and handle a wide variety of food handling techniques to meet sanitation and safety standards. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Must be able to satisfactorily complete installation, state, and national criminal background checks, CPR, and first aid. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. (IAW AFI 44-107 Dtd 7 April 2010). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution in order to qualify. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Child Development Program will provide 100% child care fee discount for all CYP direct care staff for the first child enrolled in a full-time or regular part-time DAF CDP. A 25% discount will apply for any additional children of direct care staff. Direct care staff must spend a minimum of 75% of their work schedule in the classroom including flex employees who average 15 hours a week.
