Job Summary: Under the direction of the Radiology Director, and Radiologist.   The Nuclear Supervisor is Responsible for the efficiency and effectiveness for the supervision of Nuclear Imaging services. The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position.   Commitment to the delivery of competent patient care supported by lines of communications and coordination with physicians, patients and co-workers.  Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis.  Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

The Nuclear Supervisor will be available for emergency on-call procedures as required, or set forth.   Recognizes the need for control/assessment of pain for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible.  Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

 

Helps to Ensure that all Nuclear procedures meet quality and regulatory standards.

 

                              1. Helps to Ensure that all sections of the Nuclear department

                                  produce images that meet accepted quality standards.

                              2. Directs Nuclear employees regarding proper Radiation

                                  Safety, and Protection from undue Radiation exposure.

                              3. Assures enforcement of safety regulations in all areas.             

                              4.  Participate in maintaining and acquiring information

                                   For Performance Improvement projects

                              5.  Helps to Ensure that all equipment is safe, and maintained

                                  In a way that promotes effective and safe patient care,

                                  In accordance to all regulatory  State and JACHO   

                                  guidelines.

                                                

 

2.  Ensures Ability to Supervise others and Find Solutions to Difficult Technical or  

     Employee / Patient Problems.

 

                              1. Maintains an open and Honest working relationship with all 

                                  Employees.

                              2. Participates in Patient and Employee Satisfaction

                                  meetings when needed.                                       

                              3. Shows responsiveness in resolution of customer service

                                  Issues which affect or stem from the Imaging department.

3.  Ensures the effectiveness of Nuclear Services in accordance with DMH 

     Standards.

                                2. Achieves department goals in accordance with the mission

                                    and philosophy of DMH and the standards of Nuclear

                                4.  Ensures completion of  staff competency sheets, 

                                     and yearly employee education.

                                5.  Keeps Radiology Director informed of overall

                                     departmental operations and any new trends or concerns.

                                6. Helps to Ensure that all procedures are properly billed,

                                     And charged on a weekly bases.

 

 

 

 

5.  Ensures that technical procedures in the application of radionuclides meet all

     quality and regulatory standards.

 

                               1. Supervises the application of radionuclides maintaining

                                   standards of quality.

                               2. Directs nuclear medicine personnel regarding work

                                   schedules and assignments.

                               3. Assures enforcement of safety regulations in nuclear

                                   medicine department.

                               4.  Evaluates competency of nuclear medicine personnel

                                    and recommends action as needed.  Keeps Director

                                    informed of all personnel issues.

 

 

 

    6.  Ensures that all State and Federal regulations regarding handling and

          storage of radionuclides are complied with.

                               1. .  Maintains and formulates department policies.

                               2.    Appropriate licensure is secured and maintained to insure

                                      that Decatur Morgan Hospital an all campuses are in compliance

                                      with NRC standards.

                               3.   Assures safe storage of radioactive materials.

 

                               4.    Maintains physician licensure information.

 

 

 

    7.  Maintains appropriate records to assure regulatory compliance. 

 

                                1. Records of radioisotope receipt, use, storage, and disposal. 

 

                                2. Coordinates contractual services with radio pharmacies.

 

                                3.  Reviews results of calibration of equipment.

 

                                4.  Reviews and maintains dose calibrations records.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

     8.  Directed by a physician, performs technical imaging procedures utilizing  

          radioisotopes.

 

                                1. Provides patient education about procedure to be performed 

 

                                2. Performs procedures in therapeutic use of radioisotopes. 

 

                                3. Prepares isotopes for patient use. 

 

                                4. Performs venipuncture as directed.

 

     9. Selects proper equipment to complete requested examination.

                               1. Operates Nuclear Medicine computers to enhance

                                   value of diagnostic information obtained.

                               2. Follows departmental protocols when computer

                                   processing studies to achieve high quality images.

                               3. Uses appropriate choice of  filters and slice selection.

                               4. Utilizes necessary display parameters, image intensity,

                                   and labeling techniques.

 

 

  10. PACS

 

                               1. Completes all exams timely in PACS and Meditech

                                               

                               2.  Properly performs procedure for making patient CD’s, as well as

                                    verifies all information is on all CD’s before given out.

                                                                                            

                               3.  Verify that written physician order matches order in PACS.

                                               

                               4. Verifies all images are in PACS ,& Scans any required

                                    documents, and Adds additional study information in notes

                                    section as needed, and scanned into proper patient.
