Job Summary/Overall Objectives
The Coordinator of Nursing/Clinical Informatics oversees clinical information system operations at the hospitals. Responsible for working with the Chief Nursing Officer, Clinical Directors, and Clinical IT for all components of the electronic health record that impact clinical processes. Ensures integration of all clinical information systems by collaborating with members of the clinical team for system-wide standardization. Serves as a change agent to translate and integrate evidence in the HERO documentation to evaluate and improve patient outcomes.
Essential Job Functions
Provides direction in planning and administration of information technology projects. Coordinates all aspects of planning, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of clinical applications with staff, vendors and consultants. Serves as the liaison between clinical departments and the Information Technology department. Has the responsibility and accountability of overseeing the investigation, development and implementation of new technology as it relates to clinical practice and serving as a liaison between the clinical and technical personnel. Collaborates with clinical staff in the development and management of information technology project plans and coordinates system enhancements, upgrades and new systems to facilitate process improvement. Oversee the adoption and effective use of technology supporting electronic health record (i.e. PDA, laptop, tablets). Works closely with IT systems analysts on initial build of documentation screens. Knowledge of system functionality and limitations when rounding throughout the facilities. Thoroughly analyze pre-innovation workflow & the impact new innovations may have on all affected clinicians and their workflow, post-implementation. Ensures a collaborative approach to support clinical workflow processes using technology. Design systems to optimize clinical workflows. Assess opportunities for innovative technology to improve clinical practice. Determines nursing content to standardize languages (NANDA, etc.) Coordinates the collection and use of clinical data. Facilitate analysis of clinical data (Joint Commission indicators, core measures, etc.). Develops and updates policies and procedures pertaining to clinical systems. Rounds on clinical units to ensure processes are working and appropriate technology is utilized. Coordinates the education process for Clinical Information Systems and Nursing Departments and Physicians. Provides centralized application training to the nursing staff in support of new applications or upgrades to clinical applications. Facilitates end user support during introduction of technology into clinical workflows. Observes and assesses end user skills, coaches’ individuals to enhance user proficiency. Promotes and facilitates access to resources and references. Facilitates the Innovation, Technology and Informatics committee. Facilitates change management process. Supports cost savings and productivity goals. Analyzes, designs, develops, modifies, implements, evaluates and/or maintains information handling technologies that provide for identification of outcomes for patients and clients. Analyzes, designs, develops, implements, evaluates and/or maintains information handling technologies that use patient and client data to support decision-making. Assesses the need for modifications of current system and processes. Maintains, administers and customizes clinical applications in conjunction with IT staff and tests new system functionality while in development. Recommends configuration and modification of the hospital clinical information system to meet the needs of all clinicians. Prepare newsletter, email communications and fliers which address system changes and issues which require re-education of system functionality. Coordinates request for reports, analyzes data and makes recommendation to improve patient care. Partners with Chief Medical Information Officer to coordinate nursing and physician education for the EHR documentation and workflows. Utilizes a cost effective and efficient design when initiating/facilitating projects. Responsible for project management of clinical activities in computer system rollouts/implementations, planned and unplanned computer system downtimes and interruptions in the network. Collaborates in planning, coordinating and evaluating training programs that are directed toward achieving, maintaining and advancing the technological competencies of all nursing staff members. Responsible for working with the Chief Medical Information Officer, the Vice Presidents of Patient Care Services and nursing leadership staff regarding ongoing activities and progress toward departmental and hospital project goals. Collaborates with leaders in other hospital departments regarding necessary procedures changes required as a result of new/changed system functionality. Required Qualifications/Experience
Completion of a Masters in nursing or related master program. Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive acute nursing experience and nursing informatics or related technology experience Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Experience in implementation and support of IT projects Preferred RN with Masters Degree in Informatics Experience in Healthcare setting.License, Certification & Clearances
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program required. Certification in Nursing Informatics within 3 years of hire or transfer. Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police systemPosition Type/Expected Hours of Work
