New Student Services (NSS) oversees and coordinates pre-semester and summer orientation sessions for new students and families; welcome events at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters; and various programs, activities, and services to help students transition to and graduate from college. NSS is responsible for planning and executing the following programs and services: New Student & Family Orientation, Longhorn Welcome, First-Gen Longhorns, First-Generation Living Learning Community, Bevo Buddy, Horns Helping Horns, RGV Familia, and Longhorn TIES.

Purpose

The Coordinator of the Family Orientation program is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive program that consists of eight one-day summer sessions, a couple virtual spring sessions, and a comprehensive communications portfolio to assist families in helping their students successfully transition to The University of Texas at Austin. The program welcomes over 10,000 family members annually to the Longhorn Community through college and school resources, partner presentations, and campus connections. Additionally, the Coordinator supervises graduate and undergraduate student staff. Currently this position is funded through August 31, 2028. If there is a business need and further funding is available at that time, there maybe a possibility of continuation.  

Responsibilities

Assist in the design, development, implementation, and assessment of the family orientation program. Manage event logistics, including budget, scheduling, venue selection, materials preparation, and promotion. Collect and analyze feedback from students to continuously improve program offerings.Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate approximately 15 – 25 student leaders. Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for student leaders to ensure they effectively assist families in helping their students successfully transition to campus.Coordinate with communications in the development of high-quality publications and web presence. This includes marketing, communicating with campus partners, and managing projects. Oversee the program event registration system for incoming family participation in orientation.Collaborate with partners in essential campus offices and cultivate strategic partnerships to ensure participation in family orientation. This includes collaborating with campus departments and community organizations to enhance session offerings. Connect with administrators in vital offices and academic colleges to ensure their engagement and participation.Perform other related duties as assigned, such as occasional participation in recruitment or yield events, serving on departmental, divisional, or university-wide committees, or representing the family orientation program at university events.

Required Qualifications

Experience and comfort with presenting to groups and solid writing skills.Ability to provide quality customer service to students and families.Ability to interact professionally with staff, faculty, and stakeholders through in-person and electronic communications.Demonstrated ability to implement creative solutions and take initiative.Comfort working as part of a small team in a fast-paced environment.Ability to manage multiple projects by keeping tasks well-organized and completed on time.Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a professional team, positive attitude, teachable, and able to comply with the organization’s policies, procedures, and goals.Must be eligible to work in the US full-time for any employer without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or at least three years of working on a college campus.Experience working with families in higher education.Experience working with campus partners and stakeholders.Experience with presenting to large groups both in-person and virtually.Experience planning, coordinating, and executing medium to large-scale events.Desire to learn new skills like grant writing and fundraising.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$55,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

High student traffic environment with frequent interruptions, exposure to large crowds, outdoor activity, and long hours during peak periods.Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Ability to lift 30 pounds. Use of manual dexterity. Climbing of stairs. Climbing of ladders and lifting and moving event materials and boxes.
