Department Description:

CHA’s Health Improvement Team (HIT) works together with healthcare providers, residents, community based organizations and city leadership to assess health status, determine priorities, build action plans and provide leadership around health issues that impact the community.

WIC Program Overview and History:

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a short-term intervention program designed to influence lifetime nutrition and health behaviors in a targeted, high-risk population.

WIC is for low-income pregnant and post-partum women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk.

WIC provides certain healthy foods to supplement the dietary needs of participants to ensure good health and development

Summary:

Follows all protocols and/or regulations for processing applicants/participants for (re)certifications including:

Verification of identity, income, residency, and participant category. Complete data entry for (re)certifications.Educate and/or explain participant’s rights and responsibilities, authorized signatures, WIC foods, and using the WIC card at authorized vendors.Referrals to MassHealth, SNAP, TAFDC programs as well as other health and human services.Provide notification for end of certification, missed benefits, and/or ineligibility to receive WIC benefits.Ensure thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail when recording (intake, scheduler) information in EOS and when completing paperwork.

Minimum Qualifications: 

High School Diploma or G.E.D.Spanish, Portuguese, or French Speaking preferred.Certifications: Obtain CPA 1 status within first year of hire.

Work Experience:

One year’s general office experience with proficient computer skills.Experience in health care or community facility preferred.Sensitivity to the multicultural population served by the WIC Program.Good communication and interpersonal skills.Able to handle pressure of a high participant volume and busy office.Availability to travel to multiple WIC sites.Availability to work during morning, afternoon, evening, and occasional Saturday’s.Demonstrates good team work effort.
