Job Overview:
The Bed Board Controller assigns rooms to patients by checking physician service and diagnosis. They work closely with all floors throughout the hospital to ensure patient flow. Bed Board Controllers are proficient in registration and census/ bed management. Demonstrates precise documentation. They ask questions and record the required information. They must practice a culture of kindness, maintain a positive rapport and cooperative working relationship with all patients, guests, physicians, physicians offices and fellow RWJBH employees.

Management of Bed CensusFacilitates the bed management process throughout the institutionMonitors compliance with regulatory requirements as well as RWJUH policies and procedures, i.e., EMTALA, HIPAAMaximizes the efficiency and effectiveness of patient placementEnsures the optimal usage of in-patient bed resources is achieved within the parameters of defined policy, ensuring that each acute hospital bed is appropriately occupied. Particular attention is given to the availability of sufficient beds for emergency admissions and Transfer Center patientsLiaison and consultant with medical and nursing personnel in the discharge and transfer of all of the above functions, to ensure the efficient and effective maximization of the hospital bed baseResolves problems and responds to special needs of the Cath Lab schedule as they relate to the transfer of patientsProjects and coordinates the number of elective and non-elective admissions in order to optimize through-put. Recognizes potential through-put issues in advance and prepares alternate methodology processingActs as a resource for staff in managing the Bed Census areaTransfer Center ManagerMonitors and makes decisions about appropriateness of transfers utilizing clinical expertise and assessment skillsManages and coordinates activities involved with the Transfer CenterActs as a resource for staff in managing the Bed Census and Transfer CenterOrganizational Work Role CompetenciesOrganizing the unit activities to mobilize resources in a changing environment.Displays competence by following established policies and procedures and marketing hospital standards of care to patients and families.Assisting in the orientation of new staffSupports institutional guest relations initiativesContributes to the professional growth and development of personnel by continuously assessing patients to be transferredFosters Interdisciplinary Collaborative RelationshipsFosters an atmosphere of positive communication within the areas of Census management and Transfer CenterMaintains open lines of communication with physicians and staff nursesParticipates in daily bed meetings with Nursing Directors to facilitate bed management plans for the day as neededProfessional DevelopmentAttending formal educational seminars/classes to enhance knowledge on both clinical and administrative issuesParticipates in the orientation program of new Bed ManagersMaintains a cooperative working relationship among all departmental supervisoryChoosing RWJBarnabas Health!
