The Coordinator of Academic Support is a professional position that reports to the Associate Director of Academic Success to provide strategic and transformational leadership in the area of academic excellence. The Coordinator will carry out campus-wide academic support programs (on the DeLand campus) to champion student success, particularly by facilitating dynamic and impactful content-based Tutoring and SPI (Stetson Peer Instruction) programs as well as the Success Coaching program focused on the continued development of universal academic skills (e.g. time management, test preparation, active reading). The Coordinator will work individually and in groups with students, tutors, SPIs, and Peer Success Coaches to empower those students to be independent, successful, and confident learners and teachers. In addition to these academic support areas, the Coordinator will also provide academic advising support to the continuing undergraduate student populations across the academic units. This will occur throughout the academic year and throughout the summer in the New Hatter Advising process where incoming First Time in College and Transfer students as they are onboarded to the university. The Coordinator will work within Academic Success as part of the Career and Academic Success support team in order to support overall student success in alignment with Stetson’s Strategic Priorities (https://www.stetson.edu/other/about/media/sp-brochure.pdf) .
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
+ Lead a dynamic team of high achieving student tutors, SPIs (Stetson Peer Instructors), and Peer Success Coaches in providing quality academic support for the Stetson student body
+ Supervise graduate assistant (Success Specialist) in the development and implementation of the Success Coaching program and approximately 50 undergraduate student employees
+ Lead this team by planning and implementing learning-outcome based professional development; providing affirmative, constructive, and timely feedback; facilitating reflection and team building; and celebrating victories and appreciating service to the institution
+ Collect and analyze data and assessment of service usage, needs, and effectiveness
+ Advertise all academic support opportunities to the Stetson student body
+ Collaborate with faculty experts in subject areas to hire and evaluate tutors and SPIs
+ Observe tutoring and SPI sessions to provide support, live supervision, and concrete feedback to student staff
+ Serve as an information resource for students, faculty, staff, and parents in matters related to tutoring, SPI, and general practices of academic success
+ Provide success coaching to students and present on skills and strategies for success at workshop sessions, classroom visits, open houses, and other university events
+ Maintain confidential and accurate student records and prepare reports (e.g. advising plans, financial aid success plans, etc.)
+ Perform outreach efforts in response to student alerts within Stetson Student Success Collaborative (SSC)
+ Oversee the Academic Success Early Intervention initiative, managing and documenting student outreach and responses
+ Stay current on best practices and implementation methods for Institutions of Higher Education in the areas of tutoring, academic intervention/coaching, and other student success strategies
+ Work with the Associate Director of Academic Success to facilitate and manage team outreach to students with deficient midterm grades; facilitate midterm success workshop
+ Provide general academic advising support and advising education to current students across the 3 academic units
+ Serve as a New Hatter Advisor over the summer to assist with the scheduling and onboarding of incoming students
+ Collaborate with other members of the Academic Success team to develop and implement departmental initiatives including both First Time in College and Transfer students
+ Stay informed and knowledgeable on current student success strategies and best practices for promoting student retention and success
+ Other duties as assigned
Required Skills
+ Must have excellent interpersonal skills and demeanor in order to work well with university faculty, staff, students and the public
+ Must have excellent computer skills and proficiency with main operating systems, such as Microsoft Office 365
+ Ability to be flexible in one’s work assignments
+ Communicate clearly and concisely both in writing and oral presentations
+ Good organizational skills
+ Ability to work independently, with limited supervision, as well as effectively in a team
+ Understand the confidentiality of all information within the university
+ Strong presentation skills to various constituencies, in different environments, and for diverse audience sizes
+ Strong attention to detail; very thorough and dependable
Required Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree
+ Experience with academic advising, student success interventions, and academic support services
+ Experience with coaching or mentoring students
+ Highly proficient with web-based resources, spreadsheet, and presentation software (MS Word, Power Point, Outlook and Excel)

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree and experience in a relevant field is preferred
+ Knowledge of EAB’s Student Success Collaborative (SSC) and Banner software is beneficial
Work Environment: The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside on occasions throughout the year when tabling at events. May be requested to work occasional evenings or weekends for special program events. Opportunity for a Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) with one day work from home (WFH) per week.
