Core Systems Lead
**Job Description:** **DIVISION** : Information Technology Services (ITS) **DEPARTMENT** : ITS Infrastructure – Systems Team **BASIC FUNCTIONS** : The Core Systems Lead will oversee a team responsible for the planning, implementation, and maintenance of the University's public and private cloud infrastructure, server environments, storage, disaster recovery/business continuity planning (DR/BCP), and strategic use of SaaS and PaaS solutions. This hands-on position will lead non-network technologies, collaborating with various departments to efficiently identify and meet their technology needs. The role requires strategic vision, technical expertise, and effective leadership. + Develop and execute IT strategies that optimize public (AWS, Azure) and private (VMware) cloud environments. + Oversee the administration and optimization of infrastructure services, including Microsoft 365 and Dropbox. + Direct and maintain a robust DR/BCP strategy, ensuring resilience and data protection. + Lead a team of engineers and administrators, ensuring high performance, continuous learning, and accountability. + Work with ITS team members to identify and solve infrastructure challenges. **PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES** + Infrastructure Management + Ensure the efficient and secure operation of all non-network systems, including servers, storage, and cloud solutions. + Oversee public cloud (AWS, Azure) and private cloud (VMware) infrastructure to support current and future organizational needs. + Manage Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and Dropbox for business services to ensure optimal productivity across the university. + Strategic Planning and DR/BCP + Design and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans, coordinating with other departments to minimize risk and downtime + Identify and adopt new cloud, SaaS, and PaaS solutions that align with the University’s IT strategy. + Team Leadership and Collaboration + Supervise and mentor a team of engineers and administrators, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. + Work with University stakeholders to align IT services with academic and administrative goals, ensuring infrastructure is optimized to meet evolving needs. + Vendor and Budget Management + Manage vendor relationships for software, cloud, and storage solutions, ensuring service quality and cost-efficiency. + Maintain and track budgets for cloud, server, and storage resources, identifying opportunities for cost optimization. + Compliance and Security + Ensure systems comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and university security policies. + Implement proactive measures for data security, backup, and disaster recovery. + To be an active partner with our University Community. + Promote an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community consistent with the ITS department’s goals and mission. + Attend seminars and related meetings to enhance knowledge and communication skills. + Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings. + To promote safe and secure working conditions. + Promote the proper utilization of equipment and materials. + Report any unsafe working conditions immediately to the supervisor. **UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS** : Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid Driver's License. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and be familiar with working in areas under construction. **EDUCATION** : Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, VMware, or ITIL) are highly valued. **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE** : + Extensive experience in cloud (AWS, Azure), private cloud (VMware), server, and storage management. + Proficiency in M365 and Dropbox for Business. + Strong background in DR/BCP and SaaS/PaaS implementation. + 3+ years in a team leadership role, demonstrating ability to inspire, guide, and mentor technical teams. + Excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills. + Must possess an excellent customer service orientation toward staff and campus users. + Must be a motivated self-starter, especially in learning new hardware and technology. **PREFERED EXPERIENCE** : + 8+ years of IT infrastructure management, specifically with cloud and server environments. + Hands-on experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation. + Familiarity with industry best practices in cloud cost optimization and resource management. **SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL** : Provides guidance, oversight, and mentorship to a team of engineers and administrators, though no direct HR supervisory responsibilities. **REPORTS TO:** Director of Infrastructure Services **Category:** ITS - Admin Performs such other duties, responsibilities, and activities as required by supervisor and as departmental/University needs indicate. *Disclaimer The above information indicates the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
