Core Team Engineer - Steering Wheel / Driver Airbags

The Core Team Engineer (CTE) for Integrated Steering Wheel and Driver Airbag Module is the regional expert and global consultant in the system, defining technology road map and strategy, conforming to modular policy, and supplier selection strategy. The individual is responsible for ensuring the systems meet quality, comfort, regulatory, and functional objectives for vehicle applications. The CTE will perform up front feasibility assessments with Advanced Engineering and Product Design Office for new programs; develop and maintain global performance specifications, design practices, lessons learned, DFMEA and DVP&R for the integrated system. The selected candidate will serve as the core specialist in this technology and single point of contact for the system, providing guidance, technology expertise, and problem resolution on global projects. The candidate will be responsible for leading electrical component integration into the overall system.


This position is key to defining the system and technology, working with cross functional teams on road map and opportunities, defining and establishing cost, weight, investment, and compliance to regulatory requirements. The roles and responsibilities also include but are not limited to leading supplier technical reviews, leading management reviews, defining manufacturing installation and PFMEA development, and leading cross functional team discussions.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related degree field.
• 10+ years of experience in engineering design and development, from concept through launch on steering wheel and driver airbags.
• 8+ years of experience in steering wheel and driver airbag engineering design and development
• Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to work autonomously, excellent communication skills, positive attitude, and willingness to learn and coach, and attention to details.
• Demonstrated experience with industry practices for integrated steering wheel/driver airbag and regulatory requirements related to occupant performance.
• Proven ability to lead and resolve complex system issues.
• Strong PowerPoint and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 10 years of experience with restraints design and integration.
• Self-starter with demonstrated ability to lead and direct a cross-functional engineering team.
• Strong technical knowledge of steering wheels, driver airbags, and electrical component integration and development.
• Program management experience.
